UNP MPs Threaten To Quit The Party
UNP members who have said they would vote in favor of the constitutional amendments in parliament this week have warned they would join the government if disciplinary action is taken against them.
The UNP yesterday (4) said the party would take disciplinary action against UNP MPs who vote with the government on the constitutional amendments following a deicison arrived at by the Working Committee last week.
The Working Committee has decided to remove any UNP MP who votes in favor of the constitutional amendments.
UNP parliamentarian Earl Gunasekera has been quoted in the media saying today that the decision by several UNP members to support the government by voting in favor of the constitutional amendments was part of the democracy within the party.
He has said that action should be taken against UNP deputy leader Karu Jayasuriya for joining the government during the war and later rejoining the UNP, if the party is to take disciplinary actions against the MPs who vote for the constitutional amendments.
Gunasekera has warned that the UNP members who have decided to vote with the government for the constitutional amendments will not hesitate to join the government if the UNP attempts to take against them.
Four UNP MPs Abdul Cader, Earl Gunasekara, Lakshman Seneviratne and Manusha Nanayakkara have said they would vote in favor of the constitutional amendments.

So it turns out that all the rhetoric that was spewed out at UNP platforms during election time was just humbug, When it comes to filing their bellies, to hell with the voters. And Madduma Bandara says that he will vote according to the wishes of his voters. Is he forgetting that he was voted to Parliament on what was in the UNP manifesto and that never mentioned a 18th Amendment detrimental to the people and the country. Oh, give us a break you selfish, imbeciles!!!!
This regime will buy anybody but not the JVP members who are the only principled politicians today.
I agree with you, Percy, but will they survive the onslaught of the Rajapaksas who do not play by the rules?
Hats off to the JVP, even if they die in the process, they are the only heros
at this hour, the UNPers are a disgrace, my sympathies are with the voters who trusted them and were fooled. Do not get me wrong supporting Mahinda is alright but these jumpers who spoke otherwise and now supporting him are the bloody dogs………………….
They are not dogs, if they are dogs they will remain eating the shits of others till the death,
I think they are wise and well wishers for our motherland. its their right to support Mahinda for the common good of our contry and our poeple.
Principled? You mean insane? JVP is one reason why the public don’t trust politics. All what they do is stirring up the poor public workers on tandem basis.
Ruwan… you seem to be an Rajapakse ass digger. People like you don’t have the balls to stand up for the truth and don’t have a place in a civilized society. Its only
paray dogs like you that eat from any shit bins
Wimal is alreay bought.
Oh, the radical commies…they can all go live in North Korea!!! You too can go there Percy Madawela
Wimal ‘Gel’ Boruwanse was still in JVP when MR bought him, Percy. We never know but still JVP is the pest party where the policy is concern.
Now the double standard UNP MPs threatning and balck mailning the leadership. Nip in the bud, kick them all out right now. There is nothing for UNP to loose. These week links must be get rid of, in order to build the party. Dont give in RW/Sajith/Karu.
Correction ‘Best’ not pest.
What about the Mr Wimal and the gang of thieves? Aren’t they Once JVP sahodaraya’s . These fellows all will sell even their mother for money. We have be come a nation of BASTURDS. We had our share of heroes Like Premadasa, Lalith Ranjan But I think we have gone out of stock on bravery. Each and every one of you tell me When Mahindha Rigged Election what did we do? When he put Sarath Fonseka in Jail what did we do? When he chased away innocent city traders what did we do? And now do the same thing when he is screwing the future of your children and grand children. We are a shame less breed of people with no back bone. If Prabaharan was alaive true to god I am telling you now I WILL JOIN HIM to fight mahindha the dictator.
This is to Wing
Why to think joining to Prebhakaran if he is alive?? You can be a another Prabhakaran to kill and taste the lives of innocent poeples. You are talking so bravely and why the hell you are thinking of going behind the dead animals ass?
pissek ,,,!!!
regime dont want to buy dna or jvp culprits even they beg to take them because they got 156 votes in faveour
@ Percy Mandawala,
JVP members are principled politicians today?
forgot wat happen in 1983 and JVP was one of the main cause for the beginning of the war?
and wats about WIMAL WERAWANSA?
so he jumped to the government side because of his principles working in his bank account?
yes you can say JVP has thire principles..but are they correct to handle a country.they only knows to oppose..they know the problem but not the answer.only political parties that can help this country is UPFA or UNP.those 2 should be the only parties in this country.jvp should be banned in doing politics.also unp hopefully get thire act together and be a strong opposition for the gvt.at the moment MR is showing his ability to kill the opposition and hopefully he will only do good to this country like in the past.but a strong oppostion has to be there to control as otherwise too much power may increase ego and destry this country
UNP supporters should blame Ranil for not stepping down. This erosion is the result of dissatisfaction with the leadership. It is useless to blame Mahinda.JR did the same thing. Politicians are ruthless whenit comes to power.
JVP is the only party that stick to their priciples.
The problem is they stick their principles in wrong places!
Wijeweera orderd to close all hospitals on certain days during the height of JVP. But he had a pile of medicines with to survive for a long period. What kind of a comrade? When he got caught he gave all the hiding places of his comrades indluding his super team members. I personally sa the luxary life spent by Dias Mudallali (Gamage). Some people have very short memory. May be thy were kids at that time.
Not Gamage. It was Gamanayaka. Good riddance.
Well said Wije, exactly true, we spend days in side our homes without even a drop of water to drink. i think they want to remain those principles.
Till when do you think you can stick with your basik Principles? Your principles are always against good will.. He saved our mother land and now let him develop the country.
It is good you can remain calm with your principles.
Nisam,
Do you really beleive that he or his family have the brains to develop the country?
Winning a war with support of Powerful nations is easy.
But Deveoping the country is different.
Will those countries give them grants without something in return?
Ranil u r in a dreamland. Do u think that u can buy time. MR cannot be defeated even u have the PM as the executive head. U have to change u leadership and give the leadership to Sajitth who could comfortably work with the grassroots. See what MR is doing. His development and tackling the people is just like that of Premadasa. Most of the Ministers who work in his cabinet are from UNP. So now what is the difference between UNP and MR
I am a floating voter and one person who helps to change govts. Many occasions gave the vote to UNP except last general election as we don’t want any army officers to become the president. However we respect SF as our war hero.
The UNP all members should vote for the govt as a protest for UNP leader ship. He never learns lessons from past. Minorities should be given their due place, but should not be the sole dependent at election to win power. Ranil and his cacthers should stay in the opposition for ever. Next time some one from a Tamil party become the leader of opposition. Ranil should step down immediately..
If Ranil Step down I think we can solve all these problems.
If they have any iota of decency, these long jumpers must resign from their Parliamentary seats and contest again from their newly chosen party since they were elected by UNP voters to stick with the party.
The whole priblem is our majority voters are foolish to beleive these corrupt candidates at election time.
Now it is U_unity N_no P_party. I am afraid soon it will be only NP (No Party)
ranil will be the last mp in unp very soon. its best time to start a new unp
Ordinary people worship power. So these people also join with the powerful peoople. May be they are rewarded for their behaviour.
Why not???Let them go…it does not make much difference..
I am alsoe one of the UNP supporter one time but all hope of UNP have been vanished.
ALL UNP party members Want to keep Rnil as longas he could be a leader.
Lst us see what will hapen to the UNP after 18th ammendments
My god bless you Mr. Ranil
Wish you to have another term as aLeder
I believe Ranil , Tissa Attanayake & John Amaratunge should practice democracy in UNP, before they speak about democracy. UNP MP’S should have their right to vote to for or against the 18th amendment. Ranil should take the responsibility of the present plight of UNP. If he acted wisely as a leader in 1994, this will have not happened.
Good suggestion. But it is valid if the other parties (including the ruling parthy) also practices the same policy.
Ranil or any other person is not a matter in this situation. Can any one suggest what Opposition leader should do in this moment? It is clear thst he is doing what a leader can do democratically in such a situation.
It is looks like democracy,It is not it is power of money ,May be millions of rupees going around,This traitors who is destroying the country has no punishmant under norms outher than sharia low. They all know they are putin their nec under gelatin and also they know for next 50 years only MR era and they wants to be rich before they die and no point of staying with UNP.
UNP is limping. It is high time Ranil bids goodbye. Sajith or Karu should take over and save UNP otherwise there will be no opposition.
Let them go, anyway UNP cannot do anything in parliment with them.. after they go unite the party with a strong young leaders like Sajith, Dayasiri.. then people will get a hope.. but they should not wait until the next general election.. have to organise sooner no later..
You are correct D’Shan
Let those rebels go.Then Sajith ,dayasiri co can rebuild the party.Ranil must go now
Justin
(Retd.) General Sarath Fonseka is the only viable challenge to MR.If anyone really wants to change this government for any reason, then you have to support him in a future election. His life is at stake because the ROYAL FAMILY is fully aware of this situation.Mahinda,Bacil and Gotabhaya shiver just at the mention of his name.Sri Lankans should realise the truth and act accordingly.
gen is a good military leader .but in no way even close to leading a country.he has a big mouth and a military practice which wont help to run a country or international relations.and his histry tells how corrupt he was when it comes to administration.and he is a man who can sell this country if he wantes. how can our country trust a man who turns back and bites the hand of the peron whos feeding him.irrespective of political background MR promoted gen giving him media coverage and lifting him as a leader.but he uses the reputatin he got to hurt the same people who gave him the freedom to save this country.and worst is he joined the people who try to harm hm and stop him from doing the gretest thing he did for this country.so who is the traitor ???
What is the big deal, you all are for the policies of the UPFA. Why do you guys want to pretend that you are UNP’ers. Go ahead and join the UPFA. The party can be built without you guys to be one of the vibrant political force; that is of course after getting rid of Ranil and his cohorts.
dream my friend dream…not in this world….only in dreamland..
It is better all these useless guys of the UNP go to the Apaya(aweechi maha narakadiya) and the lower level members could generate the UNP very easily.
The UNP should be cleaned very soon introducing young people like Dayasiri jayasekera, Ruwan Wijewardene ete as JR did following the death of Hon.Dudly Senanayake. The other parties should introduce the young people like Vimukthi Kumarathunga and the only son of the late Hon.Wijeweera. Our Buddhist monks should be very careful with this MR regime and must take correct decisions.
hellow Mr Mosad。。。you should not humiliate others. Learn to be humane!!!!
Of cause be fare
Shameless Cut throats! Selfish b******** talking like saints? In the interest of people? You will do anything to achieve financial benefits for yourself. You will end up in hell, for sure
All of you are betrayers(MP- manape peretheyo) that’s been constitutional according to UNP since 1978. So no worry. URAGE MALU URA PITAMA KAPEEMA…!
There is very little left to talk on this regard for JVP members , Who voted for JVP? Howmany votes do they have in Sri Lanka? i think its less than 100 poeple who voted for thousands of JVP supporters, even thier wives voted aganist them,
There is no problem at all, JVP can remain with thier principles till the end this world. ha ha ha.
