More T/Us Join Campaign For Salary Increase
The National Trade Union Center (NTUC) today (6) held discussions with five trade unions attached to the Government Printer’s Department on the campaign to demand a Rs. 8,000 salary increase and the trade unions have decided to support the campaign.
NTUC Head and JVP politburo member K.D. Lalkantha and representatives of the NTUC held discussions today with representatives of five trade unions attached to the Government Printer’s Department at the department auditorium.
Lalkantha said the NTUC had explained the reason behind the demand for a Rs. 8,000 salary increase for the public sector and similar increases for the private and estate sector employees.
“The trade unionists at the Government Printer’s Department agreed with the demand and said a joint action has to be initiated to win the demand,” he said.
He explained that the demand for a Rs. 8,000 salary increment is not based on a pledge made by the President, but in line with the increase in the cost of living index.

How do you expect to get a salary increase, when the Govt. has no money to pay pension to all retired public servants?
Are these trade unions only concerned about money? Are they not concerned about the new Constitutional amendment under which the little independence that Public Servants had will virtually disappear. If this is passed, any public servant, whatever his position can be removed with a cabinet paper. The first to go will be the Office bearers in the Trade Unions!
Lal Kantha ! Thank you and best wishes for hudakalasatane.
Sallary? what Salary increase? You have voted to bring this wonderful govt to power. Thats all you wanted. So you can happy now. You all will struggle like this as long as you support your KING Jokers.
Forget your demands and look at the country now. How its been developed after the war. Another Harbour/Airport/commonwealth Games. 18th amendment (and more to follow suite). Bought over SLMC, (JHU & NFF today) & some other opposion MPs. Beggars are no more in CMB. Just shut up and keep supporting MR to make another Sg. Perhaps the crown prince Namal might consider your demands after a decade.
