Seminar On Amendments Blocked
Authorities of the Colombo University have today (6) cancelled a seminar organized by the university students on the proposed constitutional amendments.
The seminar was scheduled to be held today at the university premises at 2 p.m. and JVP MP and politburo member Anura Kumara Dissanayake was to be the main speaker at the seminar.
JVP sources told The Sunday Leader that the university students had reserved the main university auditorium for the seminar several days ago. Although authorities had granted permission then, they had informed the students today that the event has been cancelled.

Why does this guy need more powers?
What more is he asking. He already got the parliament, the justice system, the forces, the police and even the electoral process…
JVP is the first target by this illegal regime in every move they take.
Dear Colombo Uni students, please do not let this stop you. Show the authorities who you are. Wrte to the papers., Write online. I SALUTE you for being gutty enugh to do this…
Why these student leaders want JVP leaders to address them about amendments to the constitution? Are they trying to put themselves in to the period of 1988/89? Students, why can’t you discuss these amendments among yourselves or with academics without JVP involvement? University is not a place for politicians it is purely a place for academics.
I am never a fan of JVP but it is the opposition MPs duty to inform the public and that include the universities too. There is no law against politicians having a seminar in the universities.
Sri Lanka deserves this. these morons are not educated enough for democracy. All you mfs who elected MR that including the JVP who initially played fear mongering campaign to bring him to power; you live with your stupidity.
Long live Rajapakse family! there is no way that anyone gonna win against a incumbent president in Sri Lanka with all the powers with him including the election commission.
Please don’t bring politicians into Universities. If you want to discuss politics, discuss among yourselves, student unions or whatever. We don’t want another 88/89.
This is aign of things to come.
I think you should contineu with lt ,but without polititians.
JVP is the only could explain the consequenses and repurcussions well to public. There isnt anything wrong with it. In fact UNP must join JVP to organise awareness programs in every universities and to public as well.
Stop this insane regime at any cost. They are on rampage.
regardless of what government rules Sri Lanka, there is no real meadia freedom. There is nothing wrong havina seminar on the proposed amendments since it can be an opporutnity to educate mass pros and cons of the proposed amendments. The Rajapakse family influenced the university authority to cancel the seminar
SO, IT LOOKS LIKE THE GOVERNMENT HAS SOMETHING TO HIDE IN THIS AMENDMENT ???
Universities are said to be the fountains and reservoirs of knowledge. Knowledge may be accumulated from any source’;books, academics, politicians, businessmen, farmers, fishermen etc etc. Otherwise these places of learning will become stagnant. (which reminds me of Maxim Gorky’s “My Universities”). Universities are not nurseries. Let a thousand flowers blossom [from our universities for future leadership] (But not as meant by the late MaO Tsetung when he utterd the same words in China)
