The 18th Amendment to the Constitution was passed in parliament with 161 voting in favour and 17 against.

The DNA and the TNA, excluding TNA MP for Ampara district M. Piyasena, voted against the 18th Amendment.
However a total of 17 UNP parliamentarians including eight SLMC members, Prabha Ganeshan and Palani Digambaram who were elected from the UNP voted in support of the amendments. TNA’s Piyasena voted in favour of the amendment.
Meanwhile, UNP parliamentarians Lakshman Seneviratne, Earl Gunasekara, Manusha Nanayakkara, Upeksha Swarnamali, Nimal Wijesinghe and Abdul Carder crossed over to the government and voted in favour.

UNP MP Jaya Sri Ranga voted for the 18th Amendment while sitting in the opposition.

The UNP yesterday (7) announced its decision to boycott the sessions claiming the amendments were unconstitutional.

PRABAKARAN WAS THE WORSE MEGALOMANIAC I HAVE SEEN, AND WE ARE EVER SO GRATEFULL FOR THE TAXPAYERS WHO PROVIDED THE MONEY FOR THE FORCES TO PUCHASE THE WEOPONS NEEDED TO FINISH THE JOB, ALL SRI LANKANS DEFEATED THIS MANIACAL KILLER, THE PRESIDENT IS INDEBTED TO THOSE WHO GAVE IN MANY WAYS, BUT HOW COME THAT HE HAS GOT AN EVEN WORSE KILLER THAN PRABAKHARAN ON HIS TEAM, KARUNA HE’S KILLED MANY, AND I BELIEVED EVEN MORE THAN PRABAKHARAN, HOW COME THAT IS ALRIGHT WITH YOU CHULA???

Sorry my dear friend. Even though I don’t personally support Praba he is a legend. He fought like a hero for his principles not like tsunami fraudster Mahinthah Rajapaksha. MR & his sons hide in their fortified bunkers and expect other poor lads to sacrifice their lives. MR is zero and Praba is a hero. MR’s objective is to sell the country to enrich his family where as Praba was willing to sacrifice his family to fulfill the dream of his followers.

The CONTROVERSIAL Amendment has been approved by a “set of thieves” and has paved the way for Maha Rajano to rule his kingdom for ever, even after his death. The Dictator’s/ Tyrant’s hands, feet…etc has been strengthen as wished by the “fools”. JAYA VEVA. “It tantamounts to hammering the last nail on the coffin of democracy,” – Gen SF

Don’t give up hope. It is only a very small insident in the history. In 1977, UNP looked to be invincible. Even they stripped opponent’s civic rights.

This is just the begening of the fall of R dynaty. They may win another election. But not every election.

AND BY THE WAY, CHULA, THIS DOES NOT GIVE ANY GUARANTEES AT ALL, ALL THE RIFF RAFF THE OTHER PARTIES HAD, CHANGED SIDES, WHAT IS THE GUARANTEE, OF CONSISTANCY WITH A CABINET FULL OF OPPORTUNISTS, THEY CAN NEVER BE TRUSTED, THEY WILL DEFINITELY SWITCH AGAIN, IT IS USELESS HAVING A DISLOYAL GROUP IN A TEAM, BESIDES NO ONE CAN LEAD A TEAM SINGLE HANDED, YOU NEED LOYAL AND COMMITED PEOPLE IN A GOOD TEAM, THE WIN IS GOOD BUT THE TEAM CANNOT BE TRUSTED AT ALL., MOST OF THE TEAM ARE A GROUP OF VULTURES WHO PREY AND BLOODSUCK THEIR OWN COUNTRYMEN.

Things might change at any time..All what we need is a single bullet from LTTE’s pistol group which will save our country from Rajapaksa terrorist group..

Gemba – Reminds me of a statement made by ……. on Lasantha’s killing ….. “was it a hit on the head” ?

Sri Lanka may drift back into the dark era OR the “DARKEST ERA” in SL’s history.

What a sad day for Sri Lanka. This is the beginning of a dictatorship, that will go on for generations. Obviously the Rajapaka’s know how to “win” elections, so they do away with term limits. The mantle will be passed on from father to son, to brother.
There is no democracy in Sri Lanka as we know it.. The elections will be just an eye wash, to keep the naive people happy. Sri Lanka will be henceforth known for tinpot dictators, who will be keeping it in the family. No opposition candidate will have a chance at running for President. He/she will lose at the computer tabs, and jailed for daring to run against the Rajapaksas.

here we go,lets fight together and kill ourselves and be always devided, look here ,this is a isseue for the country, not a for a community,so get our act straight,Singhelese, tamil, muslims, remember whatever we are the people who we have elected have betrayed us for their personnel gains,This is just the start all we can do in future is to just shut up and wait,
A word for all the so called members of parliment who were in the opposition who voted for this bill, you have no right to be in that seat, your people sis not vote you for this, you will be responsible for every act in the future, from a dissapearence to a white van killing you have blood in your hands,

Predictable Headlines from the pathetic excuses for Journalists in the Kept press.

PASSED 161 – 17 – It was 17 because RW had to keep his promise to MR not to vote against the amendment. The REWARD a JAGUAR DUTY FREE CAR.
NO GOVERNMENT CAN ABUSE POWER FOR LONG. PEOPLE WILL NOT BEAR IT FOR LONG.THERE IS A REMEDY IN HUMAN NATURE AGAINST TYRANNY, THAT WILL KEEP US SAFE UNDER EVERY FORM OF GOVERNMENT.

    2. SIX UNP MP’s Join government. – Every party has scum just that the UNP seem to be having more than it fair share of maggots. Five scumbags and one Tart to keep MR happy during his leisure time.
TRAGEDY IN LIFE NORMALLY COMES WITH BETRAYAL AND COMPROMISE, TRADING ON YOUR INTEGRITY AND NOT HAVING DIGNITY IN LIFE. THATS REALLY WHERE FAILURE COMES.
Masses Erupt in Joy Island wide – These blots must be living in neverland. Just a few supporters of Rabid Vermin and the Gold Smugglers lit crackers after giving their supporters whiskey and Biriyani with the taxpayers money. The rest of the masses mourned in their homes.
NATIONALISM IS POWER HUNGER TEMPERED WITH SELF-DECEPTION. WE LIE THE LOUDEST WHEN WE LIE TO OURSELVES.

In the current constitutional crisis, I think the problem is with the present Constitution itself, not the people who are elected to the office of the President from time to time.

With the district based voting (proportional representation) , people who are known to the masses – not the most deserving or capable to do the job- who will win the election… Hence the likes of Sanath J, Upeksha S (below); Malini Fonseka, Duminda Silva and Mervin Silva now in the Parliament. These people are incapable of reading and understanding a Parliamentary document let alone debate, analyse or propose changes to the same.

Since JRJ left his legacy some 20 to 30 years ago every successive President came to power promising to abolish it ; after coming to power however everyone hung on to it.

Hence the outcomes like this…. …
I also remember what a vocal critic of the ruling party Upeksha was during the last Presidential Election. Here she is barely a year later…

As long as there are people who are willing to do for anything to fill their stomach, MR can do any wonders in this country. He may even sell our mothers to fill his wallet
