Musaeus Rowers Break Records At Bolgoda

Musaeus College rowers broke their own records set last year, at the 26th Annual Rowing Nationals held at the multi-lane rowing course in Bolgoda Lake recently. The Sri Lanka Girls’ Schools’ nominee for the Asian Games Youth Camp to be held in China, Swarnamali Wijesinghe, won her Under-19 Single Sculls event with a record timing of 9.42 seconds; the young and upcoming sculler of Musaeus College, 15 year old Hiruni Mendis finished a close second with a timing of 9.61 seconds.
Swarnamali won the School Girl Sculler Award for the third consecutive year as well, which is also a record in the history of the Rowing Nationals. Although the Under-19 double sculls and the coxless pairs were won by Ladies’ College senior oarswomen, the Musaeus Under-19 crew of Vinuri Wickramasekera and Ishika De silva (double sculls) and Chalani Ramanayake and Subhashini Kularatne (Coxless pair) finished a close second.
The much sought after event for the oarswomen, was the Under-19 ladies coxed four or the boat race, which decided the overall trophy for the Under-19 Girls’ events. The Musaeites showed their class and the A-four as well as the B-four broke the nine minute barrier for the 2000m course, winning the gold and the bronze respectively.
After a lapse of four years, this dynamic team of young oarswomen from Musaeus won the Under-19 Overall Category in this year’s Rowing Nationals.
