With each succeeding year Nawaloka Hospitals has continued to make significant progress and extend its consistent record of being Sri Lanka’s leading private healthcare facility.
Nawaloka Hospitals PLC recently celebrated their 25th anniversary with Prime Minister D.M Dayaratne as Chief Guest in a ceremony that felicitated its staff and paid tribute to the hospital’s achievements which has brought it to the top ranking position in the hospital industry.
The Nawaloka story is an impressive one. An unbroken record of industry firsts, bringing access to cutting edge medical technology, offering caring, effective healthcare and revolutionizing the hospital industry in the country to be more friendly and effective for all.
Established in August 1985 as the first fully fledged private hospital in Sri Lanka, Nawaloka Hospitals was the first to introduce the intensive care unit in a private hospital and in July 1987, the first CT scanner in Sri Lanka.
In September 1992 the hospital introduced the first mammography unit and the following year the first minimally invasive laparoscope surgery in Sri Lanka, two years later Sri Lanka’s first MRI scanner and in November 1998 became the only hospital to win the Sri Lankan national quality award.
The hospital’s new wing has been designed to enhance patient comfort while improving revenue and profitability and aiming at enhancing the hospital’s services and facilities and bring to Sri Lanka medical facilities that are on par with the world’s best.
The strength of Nawaloka hospitals has been its ability to grow and evolve along with changes in the industry at international level.
Nawaloka Hospital has reached the top level amongst the 100 best companies and is also high in ranking amongst the most loved and loyal brand names in the business sector, which itself is a testimony to its services.
In November 2000 the Hospital become the only ISO certified hospital in Sri Lanka and awarded the “baby-friendly hospital” status from WHO and UNICEF. The hospital made significant advances in neurosurgery and cardiac surgery with the introduction of laser eye surgery and the successful IVF treatment centre in March 2005.
In 2006 construction began on the new building providing modern surgical units and operations with the hospital going online by computerizing all systems. In 2007 Nawaloka Hospital was the first to introduce the Phillips flat panel – Angiography System with state of the art technology, the first to introduce a comprehensive polysomnography system and state of the art pulmonary testing facility. In 2008, they were the first to introduce the “Siemens Arcade Isocentric Digital C-are system orthopaedics.”
Opening of the new wing of the hospital with an 8th floor super complex which added an addition 8,000 sq.ft., gained it a significant edge over competitors’ as the country’s single largest private hospital complex.
The hospital invested around Rs. 1.5 billion to complete the new wing and a further Rs. 60 million to instal a state-of-art monitoring system in intensive care units, a first in Sri Lanka.
