RW Slams The Media

Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe has today (26) said the media was only involved in slinging mud at him and the UNP and publishing cartoons seven days of the week.

He has called on the media to spend at least one day on behalf of former Army Commander and DNA Leader Sarath Fonseka.

Wickremesinghe addressing a meeting of party members in Kelaniya has said it was only a leading Buddhist monk and himself, who are left to stand by former Army Commander and DNA Leader Sarath Fonseka after he was sentenced to three years imprisonment by a military court on trivial charges.

He has questioned as to where everyone who supported Fonseka before the Presidential election were.

Wickremesinghe has said the UNP has done its duty by Fonseka.

You step down, they will have time to spend with Sarath Fonseka. UNP need a leader who can unite and bring everyone together to achieve the coveted goal to take the power.

  2. Mr. Ranil go for tea, & discuss for General. General is hero. He never greedy to power. If he need the leadeship he can come on UNP list with highest majority in Srilanka. He always respected who support him.

    • Navin

“General is a hero”, yes agreed but “He never greedy to power”… Hallelujah! :D

      • nu

navin little knowledge is adangerous thing. having known him & his associates for along time i can tell you u wl be crying by now if he was in power

        • Nushad Perera

          ha ha ha …..
          you fools ,,,,,
ranil made you guys turn against each other with his comments about SF.
you boys are too small for him…
Jokes apart, Ranil is the one who jeopardized the presidential campaign. He knows more about losing than wining. If Ranil had protested on the day of election , If he had taken to streets and united all opposition parties MR will be in the dog house. Even now 18thAmendmend what is happening? Ranil is smart to keep the masses at bay, but MR is out smarting all using “ranil. All of Ranils new recruits have jumped ship at least including his most trusted deputy leader.

Late General , this Fonseka, my foot, hero??????????????????he engaged in politics while in Uniform.. proved….he is half baked ony GCE (OL) qualified, he may be good as a soldier, otherwise he will not be in this soup, dont you agree?????????? he has a long way to go, think intelligently….

  3. Yes, step down and the mud slinging will stop. In any case the media only broadcast the people’s feelings. So don’t go blaming the media, slam the people and they will return the favor!

  4. Buddhadasa

Ranil, once you step down, cartoons will stop appearing. These cartoons are appearing because you are so unpopular among people and they want to see your funny face on cartoon format rather than photos of yours

  5. RW should also take time to read the web comments of various news papers to know how much of support the General is getting as against the brickbats he is attracting. For crying out loud, is he trying to be a Nero? He will go down in history as the leader who allowed his party to vanish in to thin air and paving the way to a dictatorship and one-party state.

  6. gamarala

Why are there no cartoons portraying the crossovers from the UNP – before and after the recent two elections.
These persons who crossed over, betraying those who voted for them, are the SCUM of sri lankan politics.
The UPFA regime survives because of them, and has passed the 18th amendment in a hurry – the fastest ever – changing the political landscape to other than what those who voted for them, envisaged and desired.
In other countries, those who disagree with their parties in parliament, either resign their seats, or function as independent candidates.
Not so in sri lanka – the lure of filthy lucre and dummy portfolios with perks attached are too strong to resist.
There are political ‘scientists’ and journalists who ignore this reality and indulge in UNP/Ranil bashing – these are people who are waiting for ‘crumbs off the table’ – diplomatic & corporation postings etc.

    • john

Well said Gamarala i totally agree with you. We only have to wait and have a little patience to see the future turn, then i would like to see where are the guys those who have these dumb comments are.

    • Marie

It is only Ranil Bashing we see…. and 90% of the population know that Ranil is so unpopular. There is not much UNP bashing and if any it is due to the feeble leadership. Ranil step down and media having achieved what the opposition supporters are crying for ( ie Ranil’s step down or thrown out ) wil lfocus on the issues. We need to get rid of one dictatorship first, ie UNP constitutions then we can tackle MR with strong capable, grass root level leadership in the UNP and a combined opposition including SF and JVP.

i dont understand ranil,he should be sent to angoda.i think every unpers patient is runing out.if he do not step down he will be draged and thrown out like a dog.how can we continue with him any longer.Karu, tissa,j michael,jayawickrama..open up your mouth.none of u will future if think he is going to resurrect the party.just support sajith and dayasiri.no other option.

  8. Rathanavali

You are right Gamarala! The media should focus on those crossover from the UNP, who really caused such chaos within the UNP. Let the country know how well they are faring now or to what extent they are licking the boots of the regime! Its the duty of the media to let the people of this country know how they were cheated by these rogue politicians.

    • Jay Ranaweera

Hey u fools,y did they cross over??? Bcause they r fed up of RW and the corupt UNPers, thats the REALITY.Always trying to humiliate MR and Govt will never be a winning pt for unpERS AS THE MAJORITY MASSESS R WELL EDUCATED ENOUGH TO UNDERSTAND WHAT IS GOOD AND WHO IS GOOD!!!

  9. izzy

Everybody is waiting for the breaking news “RANIL STEPS DOWN…” !!

  10. Banda

This is a funny story. The cross overs were used by JRJ when he used the tool to defeat Mrs. Bandaranaike government in 1965 when CP De Silva and co crossed over. Then it is the very same JRJ and RW was instrumental in creating the present constitution which created the loop hole for opposition MP can crossed over to Government side not the other way about. UNP should shut up and face their own creation. MR never created this consitution. It is the UNP who appear to feel that the consitution is good only when a UNPr is at the helm.

  11. Peter

Sarath Fonseka is the most power hungry person in the world. If not for MR he would not have been a commander. RW also over looked this bloake and he was not even good enough to lead Salvation Army according to UNP media spokesman. The winnings of army was rediculed by the UNP all the time during the war. If not for Wimal Weerasansa government could have lost its majority during the most crucial time of the war. SF is man who changed the rules to confir medals otherwise he was not entitled to. A man who kept sysmatically away from war effort by nursingt his self inflicted wounds in Singapore. He also was not their when Prbhakaran fell, as he as in China with his family having a holiday in China in the arms of defence contractors.

  12. Percy Mandawala

This is nothing about UNP leadership. What RW telling is perfectly correct. Today we are in a situation where the people are afraid to talk about SF and face consequences. Only JVP is facing the brunt.

    • Marie

Percy ane understand. SF issue has to be handled by a powerful leaders from the opposition. We only have foolish half baked person between a woman and a man now as the Opposition leader. Once it is changed the opposition can organize strongly with the fellow Ranil as a Senior Leader. Then SF issue will be taken up strongly. Why this sudden love for SF by Ranil ? just to save his skin….from been thrown out from the leadership chair.

  13. Appuhamy

What an idiot. Ranil does not want to accept that he is ruining the entire opposition of Sri Lankan politics and keep blaming the media for stating the obvious.

It is Rail Wickramasinghe and his close pal Mangala Samaraweera who are mostly responsible for the present position of General Fonseka.

  14. Dear Hon.Ranil, What you talking in Sinhalese.Give the subject to young man who you prefer. JR never talk too much on the stage. He knows his Sinhala weakness. What is the use of Imthiyas,Dinesh.Karunathilaka,Mangala & Dayasiri. You work with under aircondition room with professional communities with your usual language.

  15. Dushantha Kurera

Another “Joke” by Ranil who is a Party Dictator, If Gen Fonseka Came into power it would have been a Military Dictatorship and Now Its Pres Mahinda Rajapakse ‘s Dictatorship !…. all are Dictators and want to show they are “New Born” Democrats !!!! ….. I think is known devil is better than unknown !!! and definetly better than Party Dictators who after 20 defeats still holds on to Power and asking a elected President to give up Power !!!!!

  16. Kingkong

When the war was on Ranil kept on ridiculing the General. I wish he reads he and his party had to say about him then – old papers could be obtained easily for his easy reference. With him turning the coat he wants the newspapers also to do the same. This Ranil is just unbelievable!

  17. True Green

Ranil – you reap what you sow. If you dont like your face on the mirror, dont break the mirror. Do something about it. All the humiliation and ‘name calling’ will stop the day you let go the leadership. This alone is bare fact that the vast majority of the UNPers are sick and tired of you. Already he has broken many records and there is only one more – that is the only UNP leader who could not sit on the Presidential chair. Please do a favor by the general public of this country and RESIGN WITH GRACE.

  18. W. Pedidurage

Actually ,Mr RW stepped down soon after first defeat to MR. But he changed the decision soon. ????Probably due to pressure from western world. That was the TURNING POINT. It is unlikely that he will change it.
