Mervyn Refuses To Give Details Of Lasantha’s Killers

By Nirmala Kannangara

Following Deputy Highways Minister Mervyn Silva’s statement to a private TV channel on Wednesday, October 6 that he has evidence as to who killed the Founder Editor in Chief of The Sunday Leader, Lasantha Wickrematunge, we got in touch with him.
But Silva refused to meet The Sunday Leader and release the “evidence” he claims to have.
Although the Deputy Minister claimed that he knows who Wickrematunge’s killers were and that he has evidence to substantiate who was responsible for the murder, he has thus far fought shy of divulging the names and details of the killers.
“I do not want to divulge the details to The Sunday Leader,” was the only reply Silva gave to the paper when requested for an interview.
Meanwhile, when contacted, Police Spokesperson SP Prashantha Jayakody said that the police knew nothing about such a statement.
“This is the first time I heard of such a statement. If Silva knows who was behind this killing then he should come and give a statement to the CID. If not we cannot summon him to the CID over a statement the Deputy Minister has allegedly made to a private TV channel,” SP Jayakody told The Sunday Leader.

What a stupid joker. Desperate for attention

    • Ananda

If mervyn gives evidence then he will only implicate himself – he’s a true descendant of the yakkhas!

      • Either Mervyn doesn’t know a damn thing and just shot his mouth off as he usually does or he knows everything and may even be an accessory to the murder. In either case he will never give evidence because he is afraid of the ‘White Van.’ But things are happening and maybe he will be boomeranged very soon. Retribution is on its way!!!

      • Puran

Te learned Doctor has nothing to fear, even if he were to claim personal responsibility for Lasantha’s murder. The President will pardon him and thank him for the “service”

Perhaps Kudu lal who was his personal thug and enforcver did after all was sent away to the U K afre Silva personally got him his visa and drove him to the airport and even stayed till the plane left. Someday he will return like the turncoat who too went to UK using a falsified passport and spent time in jail and now lives in luxury and a large security detail in our beloved country.

    • Ian

Well he may have to give his name as the chief planner and his Kudu gang names who are his bed fellows !

    • Lal

With holding details of a crime should itself be a punishable offence according to normal law !- Mr IGP- over to you ! ( if you have a back bone !!!)

But this man, even if he kills a human in front of the whole country, the president will say he is ‘play acting’ and give him a promotion.

This is the true state of how the contry is governed!!

  2. Sri Lankan

Are people still taking him seriously? He needs cheap publicity only. Please do not waste time on him.

    • Horagay Horapakse

Sri Lankan..Most of the country have no regard for this stooge…leave alone take him seriously…BUT the President takes him seriously, protects him after all his mad behaviour and even rewrds him with a deputy ministers post….So, is our president serious??

  3. Mike Brown

Sure, Mervyn knows the details & the names of the persons involved. It is none other than him & his superiors in the government. The ‘Mob’ of the South.

    • raymond

Yes. you have to “set a thief to catch a thief” ??

    • Puran

He certainly does. If I rememeber correctly he claimed to have had his goons, and he an army of them, took care of anti government trouble makers and mentioned lassantha.
Kudud lal was sent away to London personally escorted by Silva and is now living te good life in the U K.

As for the Police not have heard any such statements, that is their motto. Hear nothing, do nothing and see nothing as long as it is a MR agitator.

  4. Randi

The Vermin seems to know something about this horrible murder. Lasantha was unfortunately silenced, and most probably used as an example for others who dared to criticize this regime. It is indeed very sad, that a good man had to lose his life for vindictive reasons. This is not democracy by any stretch of the imagination.
The Vermin has been representing this administration, and seems to be the spokesperson for it. We can only guess who the culprits in this awful murder are.
They don’t seem too far away from the Vermin.

  5. Motta Booru Silva

That’s because Mervyn may have to include his name also ..not only about Lasantha’s killing but also for many more criminal activities.
Why is MR protecting mervyn and in fact protects and promotes him, despite mervyn making an absolute ass of himslef over the past few months…..
Think…are ther others as well….If so, they must be from high places and positions.

  6. NotCorrupt

Keep it up Sunday Leader. Their day will come soon!

I know revenge does against everything we have been taught, however these guys need to be punished in the most brutal way imaginable.

  7. BASH

and we still believe this liar… why cant the police summon Mervin if he has evidence to solve a crime, which he openly admitted… all are the same. shameless

  8. R.M.B Senanayake

The attitude of the SP is strange indeed Is he acting according to the powers of the Police to investigate crimes given to them by the Police Ordinance and the Criminal Procedure Code. What does the Attorney General haave to say about this statement of the SP? If you or I made such a statement even in a private conversation and it leaked to the Police we would have been summoned to give a statement. Why are the Police adopting double standards. Shame

  9. Surya

The Sunday Leader has to be crazier than Mervyn Silva to follow up stupid statements from stupid politicians like Mervyn.

  10. It is strange that the the police spokeman did not know anything about Minister Mervyn Silva’s statement. Police should be aware about reports in the media. It is easy for the police to dodge.

What is CID for ? Minister Mervyn Silva has made a serious statement regarding a murder case. They should immediately take action.

    W\here is this country heading.

  11. ambuli mama

Like asking the fox with blood on his mouth who killed the chicken.

  12. priyantha-eu

katawa tama liyanawa ……………………………sf eliyata awama katawa eliyata aei

  13. The family of Lasantha should press charges about this man…they are awaiting the TRUTH..

  14. kiri

[Mervyn Refuses To Give Details Of Lasantha’s Killers]
Of course he doesn’t want to self incriminate him self!

  15. josh

he doesnt want to tell probably becoz of a few reasons

    1. he will get into trouble..
    2. he has indirect or direct involvement in it.

  16. darshana

He knows because he was the KILLER. (means his thugs) as kiri said.

  17. Rawana

Then Why General Fonseka should go to corts just because she say something (if he has said so) to a news paper. Mervin also has done something same. So you should be question from him too.

    This is called double standard

  18. aliyar

Its legal obligation to divulge any criminal activities. If any new should be given to law enforcement authority.
It is duty of any citizen of the country.
It is joke The Sunday leader gone after someone like Mervin, I feel his evidence or cooked evidence carry no weight other than Kangaroo court.
    thank you.

  19. he is the main culprit who carried out raja horas orders.

  20. We have pleanty of jokers in our government and one of them is Mevyn. If anybody beleive in Mervyn’s statement they are considered to be stupid. Mervyn can only fool our President.

  21. fazroon

mervin , cid , police all knows the evidence but they keep silence abt it ….. Why ?

  22. is it worth talking about mervy the idiot.

  23. Purin

    Puhul hora karen dene

  24. gamarala

He has said this earlier too.
If anyone else had made such a statement about an unsolved murder to any news media or to anyone else, he would have been arrested already and ‘persuaded’ to reveal the information at the infamous Fourth Floor of the CID headquarters.
This is “selective” criminal investigation of the present regime.

  25. GPS

When Sunday Leader disclosed supposed utterance by Gen. Fonseka, he was harnessed and jailed. Do we anticipate same for Mr Mervin Silva?.

  26. I know who was behind the killing, Mahindra Rajapaska. It is not a multiple choice question.

  27. Hetti

As I remember Lasantha, when he was alive divulged in paper that he was scolded in filthy language by MR over the phone for wrting something bad about Shiranthi rajapakse. So you can guess who was behind Lasantha’s killing.

  28. Gajan

No wonder so many mentaly sick people in SL , Mervyn too falls in this catogory.

  29. Vijith K Gunasekara

May be he is trying to say what most of Sri Lankan knows. Every one of us believed at that time the Army Chief’s involvement. Every one was scared to come out with his name. Remember the article Lasantha tried to put out about then Army Chief? Remember the arguments that was flying back and forth? We all know he was the guy behind the white van and the black masked motorcyclists. Mervin is no investigator, he loves to blow hot air.

  30. PERERA

who believes this conniving. lying, idiotic disgrace to humankind
the guy is only after publicity. the sunday leader must have been crazy to even contemplate contacting this degenerate

  31. PERERA

by the way let us call him boru kiyana silve.
    goes nicely with moda wansa

  32. LJaya

He is a lair, no credibility in his statements. Just ignore. Do not give media coverage for him to spit out his thoughts as he wishes

  33. S. de Silva

Mervyn admitted that he killed Lasantha to a newspaper, but no action was taken against him. Why didn’t the government take any action.

  34. Wijebahu

This is the first time I heard of such a statement. If Silva knows who was behind this killing then he should come and give a statement to the CID. If not we cannot summon him to the CID over a statement the Deputy Minister has allegedly made to a private TV channel,” SP Jayakody told The Sunday Leader.

OK. On what grounds you charge SF?

  35. Ravana

This is yet another ham handed attempt to frame SF….surely you guys can work this out ? The master has ordered the dog to bark !

  36. Ram

SF is found guilty in two cases. many more cases will be brought against SF,
Including the assassination of Lasantha Wickrematunge.

Ranil Wickremesinghe, commenting on the assassination of Lasantha at the Working Committee of the United National Party stated that it had been executed by a special team who reported directly to the Army Commander SF. so even RW knows who is behind the killings of LW.

  37. NuwanJ

Mervin remember when you point a finger towards the other there are four fingers pointing at you!!

  38. pansalgaslabba

    Donkeys telling monkeys to believe.

  39. n.c.wijeratne

We have a very far thinking Police service-There is murder-police are unable to find who is responsible for the murder-A deputy Minister-responsible person-makes a statement over a private media-says he knows who is responsible for it-Why do we have a CID? Why do we have an AGs dept: why do we have a Police service at all?

  40. he is the main man behind this murder.
