Virginity Test Saga Continues

The Inter University Student’s Federation (IUSF) is challenging Vice Chancellor, Sri Jayewardenepura University, L.N.A. Karunaratne to take legal action against the student’s federation if they have fabricated the ‘Virginity Test’ story as claimed by him.
Convener, IUSF, Udul Premaratne queried why the Vice Chancellor (VC) does not go before court if the IUSF has ‘tarnished’ his good name and challenged Karunaratne to prove that what has been highlighted is incorrect.
“The VC reportedly says that we have fabricated a story to tarnish his name and has made a challenge to us to take legal action against him, if he indeed forcibly bundled up some students in an ambulance and sent them for a virginity test. We would have certainly gone before courts if the doctors did perform any virginity tests on these students, but since they have not done so, there is no necessity for us to take legal action. If we have tarnished the good name of the VC let him take legal action against us,” Premaratne told The Sunday Leader.
According to Premaratne, the VC has threatened many of the young girls who were sent to the Kalubowila hospital for the virginity test and has ordered them to remain silent, failing which strict disciplinary action would be taken against them.
“Despite all these threats these female students are ready to give evidence if the VC goes before court against the IUSF,” claimed Premaratne.
When contacted, VC, Sri Jayewardenepura University L.N.A. Karunaratne refused to speak to The Sunday Leader.
This VC should be sacked. Where did he get PhD? He degrades Sri Lanka name.

what a lord of rubbish! why not file a fundamental rights petition against the vice chancellor if he did such a thing. If I recall your first article alleged that the doctors did actually perform a test on the students.
Defamation suites are costly and lengthy, and the IUSF is not a wealthy organization to make it worth while suing. I mean how many people are even members of this moronic and disruptive union
Somebody ought to send the VC for a psychiatric test. !
It appears that the studets have a genuine grievance.
They should send an appeal to the Chancellor of the university.

I believe the whole saga has been a fabrication to discredit the Vice Chancellor. It is beyond belief and exactly what purpose does such a test, if indeed it can be performed, would it serve? And then, for balance, would these tests be performed on men students as well?
There is no doubt this VC who is known to have got he VC post with political influence and who has gone on a Sathyagraha against one time VC is a lunatic.
SB is talking about promoting our Universities to international level that would draw highest external revenue to the country, with this type of Psychopaths as Vice Chancellors.
There is a lot of Talibanism going on in the country- which we need to halt right now! I don’t know if this man did or didn’t do this – without knowing the VC I don’t know if there is any truth in it- but the story is believable. The Administration seems to be more concerned about our youth mating rather than giving them a good education and improved job prospects. Just today I read that the Police were deployed in ‘arresting’ young couples in the Galle Fort arena and taken to Army HQ and given a verbal dressing down! Why? Instead of fighting crime which is rampant, the Police are harrassing young lovers. Police check points at Buddhist temples have gone way over the limit now ‘deciding’ the ‘decency’ of young women’s attire! I have seen perfectly decently clad women being turned away for not wearing a thick enough underskirt- the constables actually look through the legs of the woman to see if they can map out the silouhette of the woman’s body from waist down – if they can “saaya vinivida penawa” so they can’t enter the temple! Whose standards and rules are they? Some sick, depraved loser’s?! Lord Buddha said nothing about women having to wear Burkhas! He however, commented on how to look at a woman- he asked MEN to look at a woman the way they would look at their mother or sister! I think this is what we need to police- men who are ogling at women/ girls, and those who sexually assault women on public transport should be the ones that the Police must arrest! Young couples are harrassed for being in the back seat ‘acting indecently’ while the men who are actually acting indecently against innocent women (fellow travelers) are not even an issue for them!

JVP backed students union has some issue or other to talk about. if the virginity test story is correct file action against him. as far as I know thanks to UNP and JVP there os no defemation criminal alw in Sri Lanka. if he is to file a civil action from where he can claim damages as the defendents do not have money to pay. now the peoples fame has no value. any one can defame any one and get away.
Without challanging the VC, Udula why don’t you go and at least complete your degree?. Because you cannot complete your degree you are not allowing others to do so. You have been wasting public money for the last so many years by not completing your studies as well as not allowing the others to complete theirs as well. I studied in teh Sri Lankan university during 1988 -1990 and our graduation was delayed by two and half years by these type of people.
