Sri Lanka Ranked 16 In Gender Equality

A World Economic Forum has stated that Sri Lanka has been placed at 16 in the global gender equality ranking among 134 countries in the world this year.

Sri Lanka was ranked 12 in 2008, 15 in 2007 and 13 in 2006.

Among the countries that lag behind Sri Lanka are the United States, Canada, Netherlands, Australia, China and France. Sri Lanka is just ahead of the United Kingdom in this ranking, and behind Netherlands.

According to the report, Iceland, Norway and Finland consecutively hold the first three positions.

The Forum is based in Switzerland and has ranked 134 countries according to how the countries had reduced gender disparities over the past year in the areas of economic participation, education, political empowerment and health.
