Mosquitoes Breed In The Heart Of Park Road

Occasionally, I traverse along Park Road Colombo 5. During these journeys, I have observed an open drainage outlet /culvert filled with stagnant blackish  water infested with the breeding of mosquitoes and loaded with garbage littered along the roadway.

This infested drainage outlet with stagnant water breeding mosquitoes is next to premises No. 143 Park Road Colombo 5. The local police and the municipality engineers have visited and inspected the area in question possibly on receipt of complaints, with absolutely no avail.

Consequent to incessant rainfall, puddles of stagnant water keep collecting which, therefore, makes this particular area polluted and never short of mosquitoes!

The resultant contamination of the air by the combination of waste stagnant water and muddy soil  makes this location a breeding ground or should it be proclaimed (a haven) for terrorist mosquitoes.
Another salient feature which merits due consideration is the initiative taken by the Minister of Health Maithripala Sirisena, to eradicate and therefore put beyond all borders of existence the plague which has accounted for so many innocent lives, and must, indeed be complemented. His insight, forethought and concerted efforts are magnanimous and praiseworthy.

It becomes incumbent upon the writer to address this situation positively; vigorously support the Minister’s campaign in this connection and give the matter due publicity, considering the dangers the mosquito menace could spread via ailments such as dengue and yellow fever which are categorised as ‘disabling mosquito borne fevers,’ to say the least.
The sacred task of ‘prevention’ lies in mosquito control. My sincere appeal to those concerned is for immediate remedial action to be instituted and, thereby, mitigate the advanced consequences.
