Polythene Ban In WPC
The Western Provincial Council (WPC) is working on baning polythene decorations within three months to minimize environmental pollution.
Environment Minister of the Western Provincial Council, Udaya Gammanpila has told the media that the WPC was waiting for observations of parliament to implement the ban on polythene.
The WPC Environment Ministry had submitted the draft to parliament three months back. However, if parliament does not announce their views within the stipulated time period, Gammanpila says his Ministry would be unable to go ahead with the statute within three months.
According to Gammanpila, all kinds of polythene decorations will be banned under this legislation, including polythene decorations used for funeral ceremonies and election campaigns.
