Railway Employee’s Union Also Demands Rs. 8000 Pay Hike (Photos)

The All Ceylon Railway Employee’s General Union held a protest in Pettah today. The union was calling for a salary increase of Rs. 8000.

After the Government failed to provide any salary increments in the 2010 budget, the JVP affiliated National Trade Union Centre (NTUC) began a poster campaign demanding for a Rs. 8000 salary increase.

This figure was not arbitrary, but was in line with the rise in the cost of living, from 2006 to June of this year, the NTUC said. Since then, unions connected with the Government Printer’s Department also joined in demanding a Rs. 8000 increment.

Photos show members of the Railway Employee’s General Union participating in the protest today.

How about the railway employees giving some service for a change. Have they ever heard of ‘comply and complain’. They seem to be all complains and no work. Just getting the trains to run on time should be a major improvement.
