    What is the government doing about this terrible situation? There is no proper drainage system in the country, especially Colombo and suburbs. They are spending millions on bridges, ports, airports and who knows what, and they cannot spend some money and make sure the city can cope with heavy rains.
    The people need to get to their jobs and schools, and this is also bad for tourism.
    Above all, it is also unhealthy and could breed more mosquitoes.

    After Mahinda Rajapakse came to power this country Sri Lanka has gone to dogs. After a small rain the whole country is flooded. Down with Mahinda Rajapakse, Jayawewa Sarath Fonseka

    BEWARE…Let this be an OMEN and MESSAGE to the boss…This is very clear that there is something evil heading to the country because evil things are being done by the bosses.This is a clear sign of a bad omen caused by what is happening and being done to the country.
    Only the bosses can change this path ..if not we will be doomed with these type of disasters..BEWARE

    Urban sprawl – we need to rethink of land use specially marsh land etc – basically we need an urban plan. Look to contries in other Asian cities that have done so successfully.

    Devo vassatu kalena.
    Sassa sampatti hetuca.
    Phito bhavatu lokoca.
    Raja bhavatu dhammiko.

    May the rains fall in due season;
    May there be a rich harvest;
    May the world prosper;
    May the ruler be righteous!

    Now think of the opposite for each and every one of the above, and you get today’s Sri Lanka!

    This rain is current government’s fault. It has nothing to do with the nature.

    once again pea-brains at it on this forum.. the heaviest rainfall in sri lanka in 18 years…30 year terrorist insrgency did not allow any development work to proceed…
    instead of wholesale sale of public assets to cronies; perpetuating the war for selfish reasons and allowing unplanned constructions in ever corner , at long last something is happening.. and the pea brains can not comprehend that…Oh what a shame…
