Nil Balakaya To Develop Villages

The Nil Balakaya has launched a six-year village development programme in the districts.

UPFA MP and Kandy District head of the Nil Balakaya, Dilum Amunugama has launched a six-year development programme to develop the villages in the District through the Nil Balakaya.

Speaking to The Sunday Leader Amunugama said the programme is aimed at developing about 5,000-6,000 villages in the Kandy District.

He explained that funds that were earlier allocated to the grama seva divisions through various line ministries have now been centralized and utilized to develop villages in a systematic manner under the coordination of the Nil Balakaya.

“Rather than spending small amounts of money to develop villages at different times, under the new programme monies will be invested in the total development of villages in a systematic manner. Once the project is completed in a respective grama seva division, it would be a fully fledged township,” he said.

The programe is currently underway in 10 grama seva divisions in the District.

Once these 10 areas are developed, the programme would move on to another set of villages, he said.

Amunugama said that simultaneous to the development programme, the Nil Balakaya has also launched a social welfare programme in the villages by holding health camps, awareness and other educations programmes.

The first such programme was recently held in Haragama in the Kandy District.

  1. This is the “Government Paid Gang” in Srilanka. Srilanka does not need “Balakayas” to develop villages. Rural development Department can undertake that job and a Minister paid by the taxpayers of Srilanka is responsible for that task.

    OOps….no no,

You and Tharunayata Hetak etc don’t have to do it….. but please give the country and various institutions the billions of money you got during the elections, for election propaganda, TV adds to prop up the president !!

so only those with NIL affiliations get developed ? At last it is official ! Government funds being used to achieve pure political motives.

Record these statements and keep them for when the time comes for filing cases.

Dilum should get instructions from Hon.Tissa Attanayake during the Premadasa era.The Gramasevakes had priorities such as small roads(E class) , drinking water wells, irrigation wells ete….ete…..At that time he had to ask resources from the RDA(Roads Development Authority) but don’t forget that they had limited resources. To activate such type of an Action plan first you have to devolve power to the village level eliminating entirely the Provincial Councils to save resources to the re-distribution.The RDA the Irrigation department ete must be under the Central Government with sufficient allocated resources to provide the necessary counsultancy services to these village units. Our former senior engineers such as a.Ponraja wrote the technical notes for Irrigation Development in Srilanka for that purpose taking into account the small buisiness unit village or simply the Traditional Sinhala Village. The Indian sponsored 13th Ammendment ruined our country establishing unwanted wasteful Provincial Councils.
