Colombo-Batticoloa Rail Line Still Out

The Railway Department has said that the railway line between Colombo and Batticaloa is still out of order due to the floods experienced in several districts.

Floods and the North Central and Eastern Provinces have affected rail travel on the respective railway line.

Although floods that affect the Batticaloa railway line has receded a little, authorities have said that trains could not commute on the track until the water recedes some more.

The railway line from Valachchenai to Batticoloa is also temporarily out of order.

I earlier too wrote to this newspaper regarding this problem. The railway line is acting as a dam from 72KM of the MHT road and the Gallella Area might be the worst affected. The same could be happend to the Colombo-Katunayake expressway too.The bestway is to seek guidance from the Irrigation Department to find a practical logistic approach to the problem. Those problems should be handled through the Practical Experience of our very senior Irrigation Engineers of the department(including retired persons). We really can’t expect good results from the computer applications such as GIS but the experience of our Senior Irrigation Engineers is an asset over centuries.
