The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has said today (21) that fruits and vegetables should be transported in either, wood, hard paper or plastic containers.

The CAA has said the law would be imposed under Article 10 of the CAA Act and that legal action would be taken against those who violate the piece of legislation.

Cooperatives and Internal Trade Minister Johnston Fernando has told the media that persons engaged in transporting fruits and vegetables will have to store them in plastic, hard paper or wood containers to reduce wastage.

According to Fernando, a large number of fruits and vegetables have to be discarded due to damages caused by improper packing of the consumer goods.
