Renewed And Reborn Jetwing Sea Ushers In A New Era Of Elegance

The western seaboard of Negombo came alive on Saturday, January 15, when the grand re-opening of Jetwing Sea – formerly known as Jetwing Seashells, took place with a customary finesse
The Chief Guest on this occasion was Minister of Economic Development, Basil Rajapaksa and the Guest of Honour was Prof. G.L. Peiris with several other dignitaries participating in the lighting of the traditional oil lamp. The gathering of guests included the Jetwing and Zinc management as well as many key personnel from the local and foreign travel industry.
The celebrations began with afternoon high tea on the terrace, followed by a gourmet dinner on the beach. With sumptuous cuisine at every turn and the finest of sea-fare fresh from the catch; vintage spirits flowing freely, it was a one of a kind revelry, and a perfect toast to a unique success; the beautifully refreshed entrant to Jetwing family of hotels, Jetwing Sea.
The challenge of this renewal was undertaken by renowned architect Murad Ismail, a student of Sri Lanka’s legendary genius late Geoffrey Bawa, and an avid follower of his minimalist style. With warm, delightful interiors and naturally sunlit exteriors, he breathes fresh new life into the old, creating a unique blend of harmony that permeates all throughout. New facilities and little luxuries have also been added to uplift the standards to be on par with the best. Murad’s talent is best showcased in his unique design of the speciality restaurant “Lellama” which offers contemporary casual dining featuring authentic seafood dishes with the finest bounty from the local fishing villages.
Elegance presides everywhere. The new expanse of the hotel includes 83 gracefully furnished rooms and two luxury suites on the top floor with panoramic views of the ocean. The walk-in wine cellar offering a select collection exclusive to Jetwing Hotels, the airy main restaurant opening out on to the beach, the two luxurious swimming pools, a fully equipped gym and a lavish rooftop spa are all features that impress.
Speaking of the strategic location of the hotel, the General Manager of Jetwing Sea, Rookmani Fernando states: “…our name speaks for itself; we are blessed with a pristine beachfront and a close proximity to the ocean, with gentle waves literally swirling at our doorstep, allowing guests to enjoy a unique experience…” The newly revamped Jetwing Sea is one of the four Jetwing properties situated in Negombo. It is neighboured by Jetwing Beach — a landmark Bawa creation and a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World; and the soon to be launched Jetwing Blue – formerly Jetwing Blue Oceanic, the very first Jetwing venture. The purpose built Ayurveda spa hotel, Jetwing Ayurveda Pavilions is also located nearby. With such a strong presence in the area, Jetwing is at the forefront of setting the stage for Negombo to become the quality resort hub in Sri Lanka.
Speaking of the Jetwing commitment to excellence Chairman, Jetwing Hotels, Hiran Cooray said “… I am proud of the outcome of our challenge to re-launch Jetwing Sea in such a short time. It is a significant achievement and one that epitomises the Jetwing promise of delivering the highest quality and excellence in everything we do. We shall continue to strive, reach higher and bring you the best in service and standards that has become our very hallmark.” With the fresh swirling waves of the Indian Ocean and the ebb and flows that kiss its very doorstep, Jetwing Sea reclaims its place in the Jetwing family of hotels. Refreshed, renewed and reborn it is now more than ready to welcome all who have the pleasure to enter its pearly threshold.
