Food Shortage And Inflation: A World Crisis

By Dinouk Colombage

Mahinda Rajapaksa has ordered precautions be taken for an impending food crisis

As the unnatural weather conditions continue to wreak havoc, governments around the world are preparing to ‘tighten the belt’ as food prices are expected to soar as food levels drop.
The floods in Australia, the prolonged snowstorms in Europe and the United States, and the potential drought in China, have all contributed to the rise in world food prices. Back in Sri Lanka the flooding in the Central and North Eastern parts of the country have also greatly diminished the local food supplies.
In Australia, floods in the Gold Coast and parts of Victoria have scene wide-scale destruction to farming land. Speaking to Jack Robertson, a student at the University of Sydney, The Sunday Leader learnt of the rising food prices and growing food shortage that is affecting the country. “The cost of many essential items have risen greatly in price, the government is doing all that it can but the cost of wheat products has shot through the roof. We are also seeing shortages of products previously considered an everyday item. Bananas have disappeared from many of the smaller grocery stores; this is because of the heavy flooding that hit Brisbane.” The cost of rebuilding the flood that destroyed the North of the country has also taken its toll on the food economy. Economists have predicted that the large cost of rebuilding Queensland will eventually take a toll on the food budget.
In China, a severe winter drought has threatened the crop production levels; China is the world’s largest provider of wheat. The United Nation’s Food and Agricultural Organisation has explained that the below-normal rainfall in the past five months has threatened not only the crops but also the supply of drinking water to millions. It is believed that if China was to go out and purchase wheat from the world market to replace that which will be lost in the drought, it would cause a severe ripple effect throughout the world food market.
Although the wheat produce levels in China have not been affected, analysts warn that if the winter drought was to continue into spring it would have an ‘adverse effect.’ Peter Ronkin from the World Food Programme explained that “measures are being put in place to combat a potentially damaging drought in China.” He, however, refused to rule out the possibility that a food shortage may occur sometime in the future.
In Sri Lanka, the food shortage has been clearly linked to the unnaturally long and harsh monsoons in the Central and North-East of the country. More than 50% of the Maha harvest has been lost to rain, while at least 80% of the paddy lands in the Batticaloa District and 70% in the Trincomalee and Ampara Districts have been lost to heavy flooding. Vietnam is the only country considered to have an exportable surplus of rice; this will no doubt see an increase in the world rice prices.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa, speaking at the Food Protection and Cost of Living Committee, ordered that a ‘strategic plan’ be put into practice in the face of an impending food crisis. He further added that there are signs which point towards a potential food shortage by April 2012. A spokesperson for the Ministry of Agriculture told The Sunday Leader that despite the devastating floods in the country, steps are being taken to prevent food shortages in the country.

And I heard something like a voice in the center of the four living creatures saying, “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not damage the oil and the wine.”

The TV in your house was created by an accident of Nature! or did someone make it? Which do you firmly believe?!!

Your body was created by an accident of nature? believable or not?

How then could this unique world in all its glory, with its many splendered wildlife, fauna and flora and most of all man, be an accident of nature,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, evolution!!

No my friends it the work of a wonderful almighty creator – the glorious living Lord Jesus Christ. The mastor of the universe is shaking the uiverse, warning us of his existence, then why are we so adamant to deny him and persecute those who believe in his name? uh?

End times signs, to a disbelieving nation. This is the Lord’s message to Sri Lanka and to the rest of the world.

A warning that the one living god, the creator of this universe is coming, to claim what is his and destroy what is not. People, just as the lord came 2011 years ago to die on that cross for us as our redeemer, the Lord Jesus is coming very very soon, withing this decade, or even sooner, this time as the judge of the world.

I would like to tell Sri Lanka Thus, Beating our head against the wall and finding out whose curse is for whom, is not the answer. My friends believe me, every word of prophecy spoken in the bible has proved to come true. We are living in the last few years before Jesus comes and the rapture is about to take place. Disaster after Disaster, nation against nation, famine, drought, fear, panic, people glorify false prophets, sinful men will be made into god, the devil’s miracles will be claimed as god, people are lovers of themselves, sin is rampant. Most importantly signs, wonders and miracles are happening in the sky, signifying the return of the lord jesus christ, who is the resurrected christ.
Whom are we fooling my friends, Great leaders, scientists and even our politicians are trying to hide the truth, calling the truth a religion. No my friends, God word is not a religion.

It is the word of authority, the unchanging word which remains, though heaven and earth shall pass away, his word remains for ever and ever,

Has any other religious leader proved to be resurrected from the dead? No. they have only preached some wise sayings, is there word able to cast out demons, heal or santify the spirit or soul of man, No? Has any religious leader claimed to be the creator of the uiverse? no!

The what are we waiting for dear politicians, friends and leaders ? are we waiting for further proof of the living god, until we die and our souls go to hell?

The holy bible makes it plain my friends, it is appointed for once for man to die and afterwards the judgement. So there is no re-birth my friends, just life and death followed by eternal life in heaven or eternal damnation in burning hell. No, No, NO re-birth, as dogs, cows, or man or woman.

God made man in his own image in a superior form and this almighty god will not allow humans to be born as animals, birds or creatures, we are not toys in his hand, but precious ccreations, created to glorify the true living god and have a wonderful relationship with him.

If you need more information about the forthcoming rapture and the second coming of the lord jesus christ. pls send an email with your postal address to :
and we will gladly send you a booklet free of charge. (available in sinhala & english)

Brother Peter, Thank you! As you already know, some worship obama, some beck. As for me and my family Jesus Christ is our creator, Lord and savior. As “watchman” on the wall ringing the alarm of sudden destruction, yet yearning the the “sound of the last trump” remember what an honor it is for men like us to watch prophecy revealed before our very eyes. Century 1, Quatrain 67
“The great famine which I sense approaching
Will often turn up in various areas then become worldwide.
It will be so vast and long-lasting that people will grab
Roots from the trees and children from the breast.”

  5. Excellent article! This is what Im looking for. Thank you so much, Im very happy.

  6. Additionally, The government sponsored push for ethanol has caused major shortages in corn in the usa, and spikes in just about everything food related. What the average person doesn’t realize is that many of our everyday foods have a component of corn or corn syrup in them, thus when there is a shortage of corn, there is a spike in the price, and eventually a spike in other foods derived from corn.

I advocate investing a portion of money each month to long term food storage to combat the possible food crisis that I feel is coming sooner, rather than later.
