Appeal Court Fixes Dates To Hear Election Petitions

The Court of Appeal after taking up the writ applications filed by political parties against the rejection of nomination papers for the local government elections, has today (28) fixed dates to take up the petitions.

The Elections Commissioner had presented a report detailing the reasons for rejecting the nomination lists.

Deputy Solicitor General Shavendra Fernando has told court that the rejections had been based on 11 categories of complaints submitted in regard to infringement of election laws.

The Appeal Court has said that all the concerning petitions will be taken up on March 8, 21, 22, 23, 28 and 29.
