“Vote For Me And You Will Be Blessed”

and Politically savvy and appealing to the Sinhala majority in the country, this election sticker by a UPFA contestant named Hussain invokes the blessings of the Buddha if you vote for him (Hussain): clearly politics is what binds all religions together. Because family is what counts, Vijayadeva Hamuduruwo’s Malli, Dinuka is counting on your vote at the local government elections.

UPFA’s LG Victory
The United People’s Freedom Alliance won the 2011 Local Government election with a majority victory of 205 out of the total 234 LG bodies.
Illankai Tamil Arasu Katchchi (ITAK) came in second winning 12 while the United National Party (UNP) only managed to secure 9 LG bodies.
The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) has won 4, National Congress 2, the Up-Country People’s Front (UPF) 1, while an Independent Group has secured 1 LG body.

The elections are like those held in former Communist countires. The Police are not the police of the country but the poice of the Ruler. The same applies to the bureaucracy – they are the bureaucracy of the Ruler. The Judiciary is the judiciary of the President. The resources of the State belong to the President- they are his resources. The control of the party lies with the President just as the Communist Party of the former Soviet Union fell under the control of Stalin the Party General Secretary. The President is not bound by any laws or moral principles just like our ancient kings.
the Rule of Law or due process of law are not for the ruler. The fake democracy we have will beguile the masses. But the global movement for freedom is on the march.

Did the posters for the Rajapaksa Clan in the last election say, “Vote for me and I’ll put a lot of money in offshore bank accounts?”
