Marvan Atapattu Appointed Batting Coach Of Sri Lanka Team
Sri Lanka Cricket announced the appointment of former skipper Marvan Atapattu as the teams batting coach ahead of their tour of England in May. The decision comes hot on the heels of the appointment of Tillakaratne Dilshan as captain, who took over after Kumar Sangakkara’s resignation following the World Cup final loss to India.
Further setbacks to their team structure after that tournament came with Trevor Bayliss stepping down as coach, Mahela Jayawardene quitting the vice-captain’s post and Aravinda de Silva leading the exit of the national selection committee.
However, Sri Lanka Cricket were quick to promote Stuart Law as interim coach until the end of the England tour and have now secured former skipper Atapattu’s services.
The technically sound Atapattu takes on the job just over three years after announcing his international retirement, having played 90 Tests and 268 one-day international matches in a 17-year career.
Sri Lanka are scheduled to play three Tests, five one-day internationals and two Twenty20 clashes on the tour which begins on 14 May. The first test will start on Thursday 26th May at Cardiff.
