Forest Bio-diversity Value To Be Added To National Revenue

The Environment Ministry has said the estimated Rs. 4,500 billion value of the country’s forest bio-diversity would be included into the national revenue in future.

The Ministry has stated that the carbon stabilization process by forests in Sri Lanka, which is estimated at over Rs. 1,582 billion as well as the soil preservation service, valued at Rs. 3,000 billion, would be added to the national revenue as goods and services generated through forests.

Environment Minister Anura Priyadharshana Yapa has reportedly initiated the process to commemorate the international day for bio-diversity that falls on Sunday (22).

While the country’s forest coverage has seen sharp decline over the year, the current forest cover stands around two million acres.
