PC Members To Meet MR

A group of government and opposition provincial councilors in the Inter Provincial Council Federation (IPCF) has requested for a meeting with President Mahinda Rajapaksa to discus issues faced by the provincial councils for the past 22 years.

The IPCF has requested for the meeting to discuss issues faced by the provincial councils in Sri Lanka since its establishment.

IPCF Secretary Sanjeewa Kaviratne has told the media that there has been much discussion about the 13th Amendment that has formed the basis for the formation of the provincial councils.

He has said that it has become a much discussed issue between India and Sri Lanka as well.

According to Kaviratne, the IPCF hoped to brief the President on all the problems faced by the councils and to present him with a report of a survey that highlights the issues faced by the provincial councils since its inception.

    any bet …?

  2. Democracy is not secrecy but is for transparency and accountability. Decisions are open to public scrutiny to see if the government is acting responsibly within the framework of human rights humanitarian law and justice.

The UN report on Sri Lanka(SL) clearly reveals that the government of SL(GOSL) and its armed forces deliberately exceeded their authority secretly, and fought the war with about 20 percent acts of war and 80 percent acts of war crimes, crime against humanity and state terror on Tamils. It was therefore genocide.

The GOSL celeberated five days ago, the commiting of these crimes, unmindful of soldier savageness and carnage carried out against women, children and Tamil civilians.

Opression is abuse of power to suppress people. The sovereignty, the legislature and the judiciary in SL are utterly abused to repress Tamils.

The former Chief Justice Sarath de Silva, after visiting the IDP camps said openly that the Tamil IDP’s had no judicial right to fight against injustices. Persecution of Tamils in SL is thus legal.

A group of eminent judges appointed by the British Commonwealth about three years ago observed that the checks and balances were non existent in the court system in SL for Tamils.

About 15 months ago, Dublin War Crimes Tribunal concluded that the GOSL was “guilty of war crimes and crimes against humanity”, yet nothing was done to do justice.

Obviously, a “differential justice system”, in which the Sinhalese are exempt from prosecution and punishment for acts of crime against Tamils, and deliberate governmental lying to cover up such crimes exist in SL.

Therefore, real justice can only come from the external sources such as the UN, ICC or the War Crimes Court in the Hague, although countries such as Russia and China; who supplied weapons traceable to the war crimes in SL, are aggressively against the UN work in SL to do justice.

The UNHRC should thefore unhesitantly decide to probe into the crimes in SL,

Hi; Sanjeewa, the Indian crafted , anti social and reactionery Provincial Councils should be eradicated from the SriLanka map as soon as possible. 90% of the politians of all parties(UNP,SLFP & the JVP) rejected this system during its inception and we need not those highly corrupted entities within a 250M X 150M very tiny island. We wish that Hon.Ranil Wickramasinghe will not sell our Mathrubumi to India for Masala Wade and Rotee. Hon MR is trying to make Srilanka as the wonder of Asia and he needs money for development activities. So how he could maintain those useless PCs? PunchiBanda’s tresury is almost empty and as we see Mr.Lokuge wants to transwer air(EPF & ETS monies) to a Pensions Fund for the Industrial Workers.
