UOC Colours Awards Ceremony At Water’s Edge

Invitees at the opening ceremony

The Colours Awards Ceremony of the University of Colombo, Perapura 10, was held recently at Water’s Edge under the patronage of Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa.

The guests of honor at the event were parliamentarians J. Sri Ranga and Thilanga Sumathipala.
The event was organised by the Sports Council of the University.
Speaking during the event, Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo, Prof. Kshanika Hiriburegama said that the country urgently needs youngsters who love the country and do not work for the money.
“When you work genuinely, positions will come to you,” she has said.
Referring to MP Sri Ranga, who is an alumnus of University, Prof. Hiriburegama noted with appreciation the contribution made by him to the development of sports in the institution.
Sports Board Chairman and Dean of the Law Faculty, N. Selvakumaran addressing the gathering said that the facilities of sports at the Colombo University have not seen any development for the past 20 years when MP Sri Ranga captained the university football team.
He has attributed financial constraints to the failure to develop facilities in the university.
MP Sri Ranga during his speech, pledged to support the university in which ever way possible to help construct a sports pavilion.
He congratulated the Colombo University for its outstanding achievement in being the overall sports champion for the past four years, which was achieved under difficult conditions.
“I feel that the University needs better infrastructure facilities to support the sports men and women in the institution,” the MP has said, adding that the absence of a proper sports pavilion for the university was very visible. Speaker Rajapaksa had then pledged to contribute the necessary funds to construct a new pavilion for the university.
