Intl. TUs Ask Govt. To Protect Workers’ Rights
Two international trade unions have extended their support to the trade unions in Sri Lanka and have called on the government to protect the rights of the country’s working masses.
The international unions have objected to the labour crisis in the Katunayake free trade zone (FTZ) recently where the police attacked the protesting workers.
Head of the Free Trade Zone Workers Union (FTZWU) in Sri Lanka, Anton Marcus has told the media that the International Metal Workers (IMW) and the Building Workers International (BWI) have written to the relevant authorities about the matter.
The International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) has also objected to the police attack on the Katunayake FTZ workers that resulted in the death of one FTZ employee last month.
