More J’pura Uni Students Suspended

Several students from the Sri Jayewardenepura University have been suspended by the administration for allegedly supporting the trade union action launched by university lecturers demanding a salary hike.

The Marxist JVP backed Sri Jayewardenepura Students’ Union says the two students and two student monks have been suspended for supporting the university lecturers’ union action.

Ven. Kamburupitiye Gnanissara Thero from the Students’ Union said that the four students have been suspended for holding a banner at the university under name of the Inter University Students’ Federation (IUSF) supporting the university lecturers’ struggle.

Ven. Gnanissara Thero said that the university administration has so far suspended over 50 students for fighting for their rights or supporting the demand for a salary hike by university lecturers.

The Sri Jayewardenepura Students’ Union has condemned the administration for its action and has called on all students to oppose the suspension of university students.
