SLT Employees Protest

Employees attached to Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) have today staged a protest outside the SLT head office in Colombo this afternoon and have decided not to work over time tomorrow.

The employees have protested against the alleged corruption and waste at the SLT and have called for an increase in their transport allowance following the government’s decision to increase bus fares.

The media has reported that several trade unions affiliated to the SLT had participated in the protest and that they have protested against corruption, inefficient administration and the failure to provide due promotions to employees.

    The organised ecomomical crime around the family was lead by the culpable Mahinda B. Herath, then Head of International Sri Lanka Telecom. Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) was cheated to the tune of nearly Rs. 1 billion due to corruption and/or mismanagement. As a reward Mahinda B. Herath became the CEO of SkyNetwork, also owned by the presidential family and that got the Wimax licence from the president Rajapakse, instead of Sri Lanka Telecom. See more, the following sources:
