Udeni Kiridena Appointed President SLII

Udeni Kiridena, General Manager (Non Life) of Asian Alliance Insurance PLC was elected as the 14th President of the Sri Lanka Insurance Institute (SLII) at the Annual General Meeting of the SLII held on 26th May 2011 at the SLII Auditorium, Colombo 3.
Kiridena is a Chartered Insurer and an Associate member of the Chartered Insurance Institute of UK. With experience exceeding 25 years in the field of insurance, he is also a Senior Associate of the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance, and a product of Trinity College, Kandy.
SLII, which is affiliated to the prestigious Chartered Insurance Institute of the UK and the Insurance Institute of India has been a leading factor in insurance education in Sri Lanka for the past 29 years and has earned industry-wide recognition.
The objective of the SLII is to operate as a central organization that would be responsible for enhancing the efficiency, progress and general development amongst personnel engaged or employed in insurance. The Institute plays a pioneering role to instill and maintain professionalism amongst its members and to regulate their professional activities.
In addition to conducting seminars on professional development, the SLII also conducts:
- Pre-recruitment tests for Life Assurance Agents and for General Insurance Agents
- Course and Examinations for Insurance Foundation Certificate (IFC)
- Course and Examinations for Diploma in Insurance Practice (DIP)
It also facilitates conducting examinations bi-annually on behalf of the Chartered Insurance Institute (UK), Insurance Institute of India and the Actuaries Institute of India.
“Considering, the rapid growth in the Insurance Industry in Sri Lanka, we would be looking at more structured programs to enhance the knowledge base,” Kiridena observed.
The other office bearers who were elected at the AGM were Sanjeev Keerthiratne – Vice President (Delmege Insurance Brokers (Pvt) Ltd.), Thusitha Nandasiri – Secretary (Janashakthi Insurance Co.Ltd.), Pubudu Wimalaratne – Assistant Secretary (Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation), Chandana Divigalpitiya – Treasurer (Aviva NDB Insruance PLC), Council Members – Asoka Sirisena (Ceylinco Life), Lalith Fernando (HNB Assurance PLC), Chathura Siyasena (Placid Insurance Brokers (Pvt) Ltd.), Sithumina Jayasundara (Asian Alliance Insurance PLC), Lasitha Wimalaratne (Aviva NDB Insurance PLC), Jeevani Kariyawasam (Peoples Insurance PLC) and Immediate Past President – Deepthi Lokuarachchi (Chartis Insurance Ltd).
