Nations Trust Bank (NTB) joined hands with the National Blood Transfusion Service of Sri Lanka (National Blood Force) to affirm it’s commitment towards society’s wellbeing by facilitating the introduction of donor cards to replace the traditional red book that acknowledges and values the noble generosity of donors. The donor cards will not only replace the red book making it more convenient for donors, but will also enable frequent donors to be recognized for their commitment to saving lives.
NTB made a commitment to designing and issuing donor cards according to 4 levels – Red, Silver, Gold and Platinum. The level of each donor will be decided by the National Blood Force (NBF). A special ceremony was held on 17th June 2011 at the Head Quarters of the NBF to honor, recognize and issue personalized membership cards to donors.
Minister Maithripala Sirisena who graced the occasion said, “I am pleased to announce the introduction of the donor cards for the first time in Sri Lanka and I thank our generous donors for their commitment in donating blood which helps to save thousands of lives in Sri Lanka. Donating blood is a huge sacrifice in this era and I am honored to be part of this ceremony.”
Dr. Ananda Gunersekara, Director, National Blood Transfusion Service of Sri Lanka stated, “We are delighted to partner with the Nations Trust Bank in facilitating the issuing of donor cards in Sri Lanka. These new cards will recognize the frequent donors for their commitment to saving lives. I am proud to say that we have taken an innovative step by bringing convenience to our donors through the introduction of membership cards to replace the red books rather than carrying a bunch of red books which will contain all the details.”
Commenting on the partnership Saliya Rajakaruna, CEO of Nations Trust Bank said, “Nations Trust Bank is honoured to contribute towards this project because just as NTB takes pride in pioneering innovative financial solutions it also strives to stay abreast with the needs of society. The Blood Bank has been in existence since 1960 and the first red donor book was introduced in 1967. Hence it is our utmost pleasure and honour to partner an endeavor of such great national and humane significance with an organization whose commitment to saving lives has extended over many years.”
