Sajith Invites Karu To Take Over Leadership

UNP’s co-deputy leader Sajith Premadasa today invited deputy leader Karu Jayasuriya to take over the party leadership in order to unify all forces within the party and take it on a path to victory.

Premadasa made this request from Jayasuriya during a meeting this morning that was attended by parliamentarians, provincial councilors and members of associations affiliated to the party who have been pushing for the implementation of reforms in the UNP.

Premadasa said that he had a group of party members had requested Jayasuriya to intervene and prevent further deterioration of the party.

Jayasuriya according to Premadasa had given a positive response to the proposal.

Addressing the media, he said that the meeting with Jayasuriya was the beginning of a process to unify the party.

He said the main aim of the move was to convert the party into a winning force that could help salvage the country from the downward path it is treading under the current administration.

“As an opposition, we have a great task and responsibility to salvage the country from its current plight,” he said.

“The opposition needs to be organized and mobilized with a vision accepted by the people,” he added.

He observed that the results of the last local government elections indicated that the opposition had not done its duty by the people.

Premadasa noted that efforts to introduce party reforms and the passing of a new party constitution although aimed at unifying the party have resulted in the pro-reformists being politically victimized.

This is one of the best news I’ve heard for a long time.

The country needs a decent, uncorrupaible, efficient and genuine leader and I don’t think as at present the country has any one better to be the leader and earn respect from all.

Karu? Efficient? Genuine? This is clearly a wise move by Sajith to accede to power. Sajith’s idea probably is that Karu will lead the party to the next election defeat and that naturally will pave the way for him to take over the reins of the party for the long run.

ranil is an amzing cleaver n decent politician but we the citizens of sri lanka arnt gifted to get him as the countries president n we wasted him. ranil for sri lanka is equal to lee kuan yew for singapore n mahadir for malaysia. WE THE CITIZENS OF THIS DEMOCRATIC ARE CURSED .

ranil won the war, not MR or SF. ranil killed half the power of LTTE without a single bullet by getting karuna out. if ranil was to become the president, he should have disinterated the LTTE without a single bullet being fired.

its time to step down ranil, karu jayasuria dont have the backbone to rule the country too. next in position is sajith. sajith knows this n thats y, he is encouraging karu. sajith will be another mahinda n nothing else.

Sajith’s noise affect UNP negatively. If he really want to change leadership, he should do that within the party instead of comming to meadia.

Brother, you are beating a dead horse for a dead cause. First you tried to ride on the back of Gen Fonseka and in the process you send him to jail. You people rob the country dry and held hands with LTTE when you were in power and gave nothing to the people. Let the president and brothers rob the country now, they deserve it and at least he gave freedom to the people.

Also how did you get that pretty wife of yours? Surly you know it’s not your good looks and charisma. Its you and your father’s power, rule, authority, supremacy, and unimaginable wealth at that time my friend. Now you know the truth
