Seeking Compensation

The Petroleum Ministry states that the committee appointed to investigate the importing of a stock of sub standard fuel has recommended the Ministry to seek compensation from the importers or to recover the monies from the officials responsible for importing the stock.

The committee comprising Power and Energy Ministry Secretary M.M.C. Ferdinando and CPC officials E.M. Piyasena and S.M.C.P. Samarakoon inquired into the importing of 20,000 metric tons of sub standard fuel.

The Ministry has stated that the committee has also proposed the payment of compensation to owners of vehicles that were damaged due to the sub standard fuel.

It has been recommended the payment of a maximum of Rs. 50,000 for each vehicle that was damaged due to the sub standard fuel.

    It is a shame that the management and minister still can not prevent this loss. This could either be ignorance or some hidden agendas. Reputation of the govt. also get tarnished due to these sort of unacceptable acts.
