Government Must Keep Pledge – TNA
The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) says the government must keep to its pledge to free all those detained in Jaffna following the recent violence over the sightings of the so called grease devils.
TNA MP Suresh Premachandran told The Sunday Leader that his party will wait and see if the government keeps its promise.
He said that the assurance was given at a meeting between President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Tamil party representatives last Thursday.
Premachandran, who attended the meeting on behalf of the TNA, said that a committee headed by Minister Susil Premjayanth, had been appointed to look into the issues faced by the people in Jaffna.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa met with a delegation of six Tamil members of parliament from the North and East to discuss arrangements for the resolution of matters resulting from recent alleged incidents in the two provinces.
The Tamil representatives at the meeting held at Temple Trees were from the TNA, TULF and PLOTE.
The Tamil MPs present were Mr. V. Anandasangaree (TULF), Mr. D. Siddharthan (PLOTE), and Messrs Suresh Premachandra, P. Selvarajah, Sumanthiran and Saravanabhavan (TNA).
There was understanding reached on the necessity for co-operation between the Police and organizations of the people in the concerned areas, with a view to the speedy removal of fears and doubts among the people.
