  2. athi panditha

If the cards are costing 3.6 million, the wedding must be costing atleast 36 million.

How lucrative is serving people of Lanka??? The poor people they represent must be jumping in joy!!!!!

    • Patta Horu

3 million is nothing for a todays middle class family. Go and see if you can do lesser than that on a Colombo 5 star hotel.
How much was your childs wedding? normal buffet costs over 3000 rs per head.
After all this is the PMs son.
    Write some other things

    • Kaapiriya

It’s people like you, who can’t even make sense of what they read, that vote for this corrupt government!

    • Mahinda's friend

Creator, there is a difference when you and I spend for our children’s wedding with our hard earned money as opposed to this guy spending with tax payer’s money. 20 years ago, this fellow and his brothers were cultivating land walking behind a bull in their paddy field, today he is the President with more money than the Kennedys’. Go and figure!!!!

    • LOVE2be1TRAITOR

3 million is nothing for MIDDLE CLASS?

    This is Lord Buddha’s land.

    • Venus

No, sorry mate, Lord Buddha never dreamed of this land.

We have become buddhists for the name sake and because our parents were buddhists.

And please, please, please leave Lord Buddha and his Dhamma away from this Kalakanniyas!

      • Mahinda's friend

I am a Tamil and Budha never taught anyone to become a criminal. Look how he lived his life, he was a Prince and seeing people’s suffering, he went into a state of Nirvana. I am not sure why people mix religion with criminality.

  11. p pererra

What is the PM’s salary?/ Has he got a private income?
Can he afford such a lavish wedding?
If not where did he get the money from?
The bribery commisioner should lok into this as a matter of urgency

    • Raj Tharmasunderam

I am not a politician, neither a rich businessman or a big landowner, but I will spend this money if I have the money.

  12. Edrisinghe

Never allowed to spend tax payers money for personnal use, but self made fund could be used for his luxarious and lavish wedding party.

  13. Hiran Jayaratne

And so what is the problem?? Our taxes are at work….. :))

  14. Ice Mama

If it is his money who cares?

  15. Citizen

Naturally, when the Boss does things in multi-millions, won’t he get the urge to do something in smaller millions even! Aren’t the people of Sri Lanka so fortunate to have these men as their governors!!!!

  16. Very strange that there was no criticism levelled against the expenditure incurred in connection with the wedding expenses of Mr. Gotebe’s son. Was it because you media was threatened?

  17. Vijaya

Fro where did he get this kind of money?. we need a change and it is overdue for a long time.

  18. Deshapremi

Former Minister Bogollagama spent Rs.45 m for his daughter’s birthday party.Current PM Jayarathne spent maybe more than that for his son’s wedding.Another will beat both of them soon.Is there anything wrong? That’s the Sri Lankan way.I will definitely vote for you at the next election.

  19. sl lover

whatever it is.. it’s really a waste.. it can be our taxes (if not his own earnings) that he is spending..
    good luck to SRI lanka……….

  20. SLLOVER-II

Can any one of these people DMJ or RB earn this much of money legally in their jobs or are they rich people even before becoming politicians ?

Why these things go unnoticed ?

IS it everybody is in the same basket ?

    • Deshapremi

Nothing will happen to anyone, because they are all thieves. You scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours is their motto.

  21. Padmi

There is a competition among ministers to held their children weddings spending people’s money. Is this honest money. Ashame, Consider our poor people

A Good example By An Old Crony to give ammunition to the critics of the govt

  23. Nimal

What I dont understand is, PM is spending his OWN Money OR GOVT MONEY??????????to print these cards?????? If it is his own money why bother, but he cannot use GOVT FUNDS

  24. gamunu

This is why they come to politics. If anybody thinks these politicians are working for the country he or she is a fool. Can’t you see how their bodies change few days after coming to power.Sri lanka get foreign aids and loans.Politicians steal most of it.Thats the reality.

  25. Rajawasiek

This is nothing to surprise in our rich culture unless someone who wanted the wedding of the son of country’s pm to gain petty political advantage. Any loving farther who would do the best to their children on their own means other than the so called fathers go arroud with other women and men at any cost.

  26. KABAB

These politicians must be dreaming that they can recover all from the future “Oil Drilling Projects”. Once this project become success, citizens will be more burdened than now as the profit will be pocketed by the politicians.

  27. Shiranthi

Even if you are so rich, what is the big idea on earth having your wedding cards made of brass and wood? Isn’t it inferiority complex and an indication of our leaders rotten to the core?

  28. Edrisinghe

Whose money? Bribe money or tax payers money or his own money.

  29. Japan is donating Rs 1736 million to construct the 210 metre Manmunai Bridge in Batticaloa. Just make this bridge shorter by 43.6cm(1.5feet) to cover up the wedding cost.

  30. The Persian

Intresting that a powerfull goverment offical like him using the Karava cast traditional sun and mon cymbols…

  31. raj

the more people use race cards, the more they get benefited.

  32. DO NOT MAKE A BIG FUSS ABOUT THESE INVITATIONS. 700 WEEDING INVITATIONS PLUS 500 HOMECOMING INVITATIONS (ASSUMING) WILL BE 1,200 INVITATION TOGETHER. THEREFORE EACH INVITATIONS WILL BE RS3,000 WHICH I HOPE IS NOT A BIG AMOUNT. DO NOT MAKE A BIG FUSS FOR A SMALL TISSUE

  33. nsathees

So, does it hurts to know that the average man and woman going through hardship to put the bread on the table, these public servant spend millions on parties. What does public servant means? According to Sri Lankan politics, the public serves them that’s public servant.

  34. Eddy

Raj, people like you amaze me! Even if you have the money,to spend 3miln on wedding invitations alone is an utterly dumb idea!
As a PM of a poor Nation, he should have been more sensible, but then these fellows are so arrogant and stupid, what they spend is not their hard earned money!!
Actually this is a good case for the Bribery & Corruption to find out how a PM of 3rd world country can afford such a lavish wedding.God bless our poor country!

  35. Guzban

No where in this article does it say that the money he is spending is not his. Then we must give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that it is his money. And if it is his money (unless you can show he robbed it) he can spend it on wedding cards or toilet paper as he pleases. Why is that news?

One of the VAT horas gave his son a toy helicopter that could fly that cost 3.5 million rupees!!!
