RW: LG Body Can Be Effective Under Opposition

UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe says that a local government body managed by the opposition could be effective in development work although the central government is under a different party.

Wickremesinghe made this comment at an election rally in Nuwara Eliya referring to the effective work carried out by the Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council.

He has said that the Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council had won several awards at competitions organized by the provincial council.

He has added that the claim made by the governing UPFA that the governing party needed to control the local government bodies to ensure they work effectively has been proven false.

Wickremesinghe has also noted that the largest number of dengue cases had been reported from local government bodies managed by the governing UPFA.

According to him, the government was out to deprive the common man of the few facilities enjoyed by them today.
