JVP: Disciplinary Action Against Dissidents

The JVP says that disciplinary action should be initiated against any party member regardless of the positions held by them if they have violated party policies and discipline.

Speaking to The Sunday Leader, JVP politburo member K.D. Lalkantha said that a few central committee members were acting in violation of the party’s fundamentals in organization.

“There is a clear organization system in the party and this fundamental has been clearly violated by a few members,” he said, adding that there was no crisis in the JVP.

He said that a small group of members have violated party discipline by and has acted against the party.

He added that similar situations have arisen in the party previously and that such situations had been resolved.

“The current problem would also be resolved soon,” he said.

However, Lalkantha observed that none of the dissident members have yet been removed from the central committee.

He reiterated that party members who have been misled by the dissidents could always rejoin the main party structure and that they were welcome to do so.

Referring to a statement made by spokesperson for the dissident group, Pubudu Jagoda that a party convention should be summoned and disciplinary action should be taken against the party leadership, Lalkantha said the party convention was not the forum to take disciplinary action against members.

“Comrade Jagoda had made the statement without proper knowledge about the party Constitution. These facts are taught in the last lesson in the party’s famous ‘five lessons’,” he said.
