Deported Lankans arrive

A group of 50 Sri Lankan asylum seekers who were deported from Britain arrived in the country a short while ago, airport officials told The Sunday Leader.

The flight of the Sri Lankans had earlier been delayed as a result of a court order issued in Britain yesterday.

However the Sri Lankans subsequently arrived this morning together with a 100 member security contingent of the British Border Agency.

The Sri Lankans were taken in for question by the CID on their return to the country. The Defence Ministry meanwhile said that 42 men and 8 women were among the deported asylum seekers who had arrived today.

Britain made a mockery and inhuman in deporting these Tamils back to Sri Lanka when the regime in Sri Lanka is refusing to allow independent investigation of human rights abuses and war crimes as well as refuse to be credible with democratic values.

These people should be deported once the situation in Sri Lanka becomes normal with Rule of Law, transparency, Justice and other norms of democratic values.
