Prison to be relocated

The Borella prison complex is to be relocated to Mahara, Watareka and Kalutara Cabinet spokesman Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said today.

Speaking at the weekly cabinet press briefing today, the Minister said that the decision was taken following a proposal made by the Minister of Rehabilitation and Prison Reforms Chandrasiri Gajadeera.

While the Borella Prison Complex will be shifted to Mahara, Watareka and Kalutara the Tangalle Prison will be shifted to Ranna, and Matara and Galle Prisons to Pitabeddera.

The project is to be implemented after studying the separate feasibility reports to be prepared for this purpose, Rambukwella said.
