Accountability Crucial Says UN
The United Nations (UN) says national accountability is absolutely crucial as the Lessons Learned and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) had now submitted its findings to the government.
Asked about the LLRC report during the daily press briefing at the UN in New York on Friday, Martin Nesirky, Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Ban ki-moon said that it now remains to be seen how the accountability process will take place.
“I think the bottom line here is simply that national accountability is always the most important, and it remains to be seen how this will unfold. But national accountability is absolutely crucial,” the UN spokesperson said.
The LLRC report, which was handed over to President Mahinda Rajapaksa recently, is to be presented in parliament next month.
