Commonwealth welcomes LLRC report

Commonwealth Secretary-General Kamalesh Sharma has welcomed the Sri Lankan Government’s release of the Report of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission.

“We applaud the intent of transparency with which the Government of Sri Lanka has tabled the full report before Parliament and made it public, as well as the stated commitment of the government to respect the conclusions and recommendations of the report, which we are confident, will see implementation in an objective, even-handed and forward-looking manner. We welcome the assurance given on the transparent and rigorous application of the law of the land,” Sharma said in a press statement.

He further noted that while the LLRC was established to examine lessons learnt from the conflict and to promote reconciliation, the Commonwealth hopes that with the assurances given, the report will also serve to advance the cause of accountability, as genuine reconciliation and accountability go hand in hand.

“It is for the government and people of Sri Lanka to chart their country’s way forward after the military defeat of the forces of terrorism. The Commonwealth, as a partner of Sri Lanka, which is a founder member of the modern Commonwealth, remains ready to assist the government in dealing with the challenges of building a harmonious and sustainable peace.”

India is one of the corrupted nations in the world. There is a high chances that anyone who grew up in that atmosphere may have corrupted behavior. Corruption happen because of their moral. We need to examine this gentleman’s moral before accept or reject his view.

  2. Raja Rajavannian

Does Kamalesh Sharma know the meaning of war crimes and crimes against humanity? Seriously he has to have his brains tested for his childish and ill-thought out remarks on such an important issue. It’s a disgrace to the Queen to have this man as the Secretary General of the Commonwealth.

A fair & reasonable stand in contrast to the stupid US request for another report.

    • Gotta the hero

In Lanka, you expect someone appointed by Rajapakse to investigate him? I cannot believe a whole bunch morons will believe what Rajapakse is selling to them.

Kamalesh Sharma is part & partial of the main abettor India and will always support
the perpetrators. He is welcoming “the assurances given on the transparent and rigorous application of the law of the land,” without knowing that no law exists in our
    land, but thuggery,intimidation,enforced disappearances,political murders,corruption,
human right violations and all the evil things. This ‘gentleman’ is an unfit person to hold the Commonwealth Secretary General’s post, who hails from the most corrupted Asian nation called India, pretending to be the best democratic country of the world.

  5. Is Sri Lanka a member part of the Commonwealth Countries, or, the Commonwealth a TAIL OF SRI LANKA to say to assist the government of Sri Lanka in dealing with the challenges of building a harmonious and sustainable peace? Worst abuses by the Government Forces under the eye of the Government of Sri Lanka on the Tamils caused irreparable damages to the People and Cheated the Human Race of the World. No human including True Sinhala people will accept the actions of SRI LANKA in the History of Mankind. Tamils will always be targeted by the Sinhalese if they are forced into the same country with the Sinhalese. The time has come for them to live in their Separate Nation, North and East of Sri Lanka, they call it “Eelam”. Let them live with Pride and Respect.

  6. “We applaud the intent of transparency with which the Government of Sri Lanka has tabled the full report …..,” Who do you call “WE” Mr. Commonwealth Secretary? Are you out of your mind? Transparency?? You are losing your respect as Commonwealth Secretary and becoming a member of a “LAUGHING STOCK”. IT LOOKS THAT YOU ARE ONE OF THOSE WHO GAVE APPROVAL FOR SRI LANKA TO GO ON WITH THE GENOCIDE. YOU HAVE NOT CHANGED AND NEVER WILL!

    • This Sharma will support the views of the rulers in India, for political reasons. India was aiding the war with LTTE, even when this war resulted
in the deaths of thosands of innocent civilians- women, children and elderly.
Unfortunatly the West continues to side with India for their own strategic interests, ignoring morals.
India is on top of the list of most corrupted countries.
The time will come when these injustice will be exposed, and those responsible will have to pay for their sins.
