US wants another report from Sri Lanka

The US State department says it has been in touch with the Sri Lankan government over the Lessons Learned and Reconciliation (LLRC) report which was made public last week.

State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland told reporters in Washington yesterday that US Assistant Secretary of State Robert Blake has been in contact with various Sri Lankan counterparts regarding the report while the US Ambassador in Colombo Patrecia Butenis has also been in touch with the government.

Nuland said the US is looking in the first instance to a report, a response from the Sri Lankan Government to the concerns not addressed in the LLRC report.

“We appreciate the important work of the Sri Lankan Lessons Learned and Reconciliation Commission. The Commission has addressed a number of the crucial areas of concern to Sri Lankans. In particular, the report recognizes and makes substantive recommendations in the areas of reconciliation, devolution of authority, demilitarization, rule of law, media freedom, disappearances, human rights violations,” Nuland said.

However she added that the US has concerns that the report does not fully address all the allegations of serious human rights violations that occurred in the final phase of the conflict.

“So this leaves questions about accountability and – for those allegations, and so we urge the Sri Lankan Government not only to fulfill all of the recommendations of the report as it stands, but also to address those issues that the report did not cover,” she said.

She added that the US has seen the government’s preliminary action plan, but the US does not think it really provides the kind of detailed roadmap that they had hoped to see for fulfilling all of the Commission’s recommendations.

“So those are the things that we are, in our private conversation, urging them to continue to work on, implementation of the recommendations in the report, and addressing those gaps that the report left,” she said.

The LLRC is report full of lies and corrupt just like the uneducated thugs that run this third world poor country. 300,000 Tamils are still not accounted for. Where are they? Why were all the NGO’s asked to leave before the massacre of innocent civilians by the SL genocidal army began?

    • suren soysa

Raja you see things upside down. Army saved 300000 Tamils & wanted the NGO’s to leave, to finish the Tamil terrorists & it’s leader Praba the inhuman killer. You think you Tamils can fight against 85% Sinhalese & Muslims for stupid separatism?

      • Sisira

Raja, where did you get the number 300,000? name any single lie in the LLRC report. I behat t you have not even read it. The report is comprehensive, it addresses all that has to be addressed. A word for Nuland as well, you americans go to other countries and murder people as you like. (need example: murder of Osama Bin laden, it is exra-judicial killing) You murderers are asking for reports from us. What are you doing in Afghanistan? Howmany innocent lives you kill every day and night? howmany innocent lives you killed in Iraq? You murderers do not have any moral right to question others on human rights.

      • Suren, Remember one thing LTTE not only fought against the Sri Lankan army but also fought against Indian army as well. In the name of terrorism your army wiped out innocent Tamil civilians. What explanation you can give for that. It is your army who supplied Channel 4 with evidence of war crimes. If your government have not committed war crimes why don’t they allow international community to investigate the possible war crime. Are you scared, are you hiding some thing from outside world.

Facts can not be twisted.Truth needs to prevail.
It is true that GoSL along with India and China defeated LTTE by indiscriminate aerial and land attacks of the Tamils in Vanni.
They did just obliterated the innocents too.
This type of war against any opponents should not be taken as an example for rest of the world in the 21st Century.
British did not solve IRA problem in northern Ireland by just killing the Catholics but by talking to them.
Give the Tamils their due rights.
Let the Sinhalese spell out what they are prepared to grant.
There is fear in the minds of Tamils of Sri Lanka.

It’s a ‘time buy’ game by GoSL since there is no other alternatives. A report released after 2years of offense that too incomplete. Some more time to protest and some more to review and some more to publish. By the time it reaches the end, the country sees itself under poverty line and those pocketed live happily ever after in mansions with ‘looted bills’ sufficient enough for their coming generations.

  3. Roshan

Can we also ask US for a report on all their killings in Iraq,Afganistan, and Pakistan etc etc can we also TELL them we need to see that they do all & more as to OUR satisfaction? What a joke!

  4. Bruz

Oh yes, Army saved 300,000 Tamils, killed only zero civilians, massacared no body,
abducted none, made to disappear ‘nil’,raped not a single women, but only did a humanitarian rescue operation and saved the Tamils from the clutches of terrorists.
The story is nice but no one is buying that, after all the real stories coming out in the public, one by one.The latest one was from an army high ranking official spilling the beans to the world.
Let us see the real facts & observations of unbiased analysts of repute.
Majority of the world now insist that the allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by both the Tamil Tigers and the government forces needed to be fully investigated. The U.N. Panel of Experts which investigated the last stages of the war had concluded that the LTTE had deliberately targeted civilians and used them as human shields, among other violations. The allegations against the Sri Lanka government include deliberately underestimating civilian numbers in the Vanni in order to deprive them of food and medical supplies, deliberately or recklessly endangering the lives of civilians in No-Fire Zones, targeting civilian objects including hospitals, and executing or causing the disappearance of those who had surrendered.

“The LLRC concludes that, on these issues, the government is not responsible. Instead, it shifts blame onto individual soldiers and surmises that any violations that may have been committed were merely isolated incidents. For example, large numbers of disappearances that resulted from the surrender of unarmed persons to government forces have been cynically dismissed as isolated incidents perpetrated ‘by a few’. The LLRC unjustifiably rules out the possibility that these violations were systematic. This is why US wants another report from Sri Lanka.

Bruz you can write , scream or stand up on your head but Tamils in any part of SL will not get Police powers,Land rights or amalgamation of provinces. The Sinhalese & the Muslims are waiting to get the same rights if Tamils are given! All what you say was due to Tamils unleashing terrorism in the country, specially on the Sinhalese & the Muslims. Retribution has come on the Tamils in just two years for their killing spree for thirty years!

  5. raj

the statement is an indirect blessing to the war criminals.

  6. Colomba Buwa

War criminals are in the US congress, Israel, and in British Parliament. Just ask the Palestinians, Afghans, Vietnamese, Iraqis,

  7. Colomba Buwa

    Raja
Wake up from your dream, LTTE terrorist are wiped out and AL army finished moping the floor with them. Do you want more of the same?? I hear the president say “Bring It ON” son.

  8. Colomba Buwa

    Roshan,
    Well said brother.

  9. Kelum Abdulkany

Under the Rajapakse’s command, Sri Lanka army committed atrocities on a large scale against helpless women, men, children which demonstrates systematicity in the final stages of war.

The Rajapakse Bros. therefore indeed have command responsibility for war crimes in the last phase of the war and should be sent to the Hague.

According Buddhist beliefs, there is a thing called – karma, so their time to answer for the mass murder of the innocent people will surely come!

world population 7billions plus etc. war and peace coming and going religions sect race colour lingo but all has one thing among them twisted minds total ignorance and lack of respect to each other not new all religious philosophers moral judges saints christ buddha mohamad all all appear in the worldly scene. try to teach the masses of good judgement manners etiquette in their own way so most of us play by the game of lot of preteces with not putting our heart and soul in it. so the world goes on history repeat itself war and peace is there forever.

  11. Mewan

When are these fools going to wake up and realise that the war is over and the weak side lost. Winners make the rules and write history. Nothing can be done about that. It has happened over millennia. US can ask for another 100 reports but nothing is going to change. Tamils will be in a worse off position than they were before the war. All those tamils who escaped in boats to western countries and now demand justice, just use your brain and think this “what would have happened if you had manage to win?” Would you be calling out for human rights violation by your terrorist brothers? Just get used to it. If you are living in Sri Lanka nothing has changed for you and if you are outside you will be refugees. Any which way you lose!

‘Why were all the NGO’s asked to leave before the massacre of innocent civilians by the SL genocidal army began?”

As reported in International Business Times
    October 26, 2011 6:35 AM EDT ,
Non-governmental organisations such as the Red Cross/Red Crescent and Doctors Without Borders, which usually provide impartial first-hand reports, were banned from the western part of the country throughout the conflict,
How is that the agencies which screamed ‘war without witnesses’ in the case of the war in SL complain about what happened in Libya more recently.
