Chinthaka And Poornima: Breaking Boundaries In Art

Poornima Jayasinghe and Chinthaka Thenuwara

Chinthaka Thenuuwara and Poornima Jayasinghe Thenuwara are two contemporary multi-talented and diverse artists who favour a non-traditional approach to art.
They boldly challenge art, its forms and what becomes of art while moving in to a wide array of alternative spaces. The young couple have frequently favoured a non-traditional approach to art.
Chinthaka and Poornima have a liberal philosophy, that provides them with motivation and courage to pursue their uphill task of challenging art that evolves constantly in which a sculpture erected today may have a completely different form tomorrow due to various activities that maybe initiated by the public or the artist itself.
The unique quality about their art work is that they are extremely interactive pieces of art, which is not complete till the public make them so with their presence.
Their art is an essentially fun, multi functional and can be presented and viewed as a sculpture, furniture,  can be used to play or will create a space for artists to perform  and display their talents .
Chinthaka and Poornima’s work can fit in multiple spaces such as theme parties, night clubs, children’s parks and not only merely gallery space, which makes it versatile in many ways than one.
Chinthaka and Poornima are also active members of The Collective of Contemporary Artists (CoCA). CoCA challenges the current perception or art and creates a paradigm shift in the field which has now evolved into a fully fledged, independent group of thriving artists.
This dynamic cluster of contemporary artists are engaged in the laborious task of trying to break down the premise of gallery and museum viewed art while emphasising the concept of alternative space and has its platform at the Colombo Art Biennale 2011.
Chinthaka and Poornima along with the unique talented members of CoCA will exhibit their work at the “Maradhana Warehouse  Project”  from 15th -19th February  starting from 9:00 am -9:00 pm.
