Ranil makes special statement on fuel

UNP and opposition leader Ranil Wickremasinghe made a special statement in parliament today on the fuel price hike.

Wickremasinghe said that the fuel price hike had nothing to do with the world market price of oil or sanctions imposed on Iran.

He was of the opinion that the government was merely trying to fill its pockets with additional money.

Wickremasinghe also noted that the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) was once a profit making government institution but since the time the UPFA came to power it has been turned into a loss making State institution.

The UNP earlier staged a protest outside parliament against the fuel price hike.

  1. I agree with Ranil to some extent. The treasury is empty and needs more money for tamarsa. Those who voted Mahinda Rajapakse to power is now very much regretting their mistake. How long this government will be in power only God knows.

according to some news item, Sri Lanka still to receive $25 million for its tea export. Since Iran does not export oil due to economical sanction, it has difficulties paying $25 million to Sri Lanka. To cover that loss, Sri Lanka has to increase the fuel price. Whose fault is it?
