UK journo approached by LTTE killed in Syria
British journalist Marie Colvin, who was contacted by the LTTE to broker a surrender during the final stages of the war, has been killed in Syria while she was covering the fighting in that country, the BBC reported a short while ago.
Colvin and photographer Remi Ochlik both died in the attack in Syria, the French government said.
Shells hit the house in which the two veteran war correspondents were staying, then they were killed by a rocket as they tried to make their escape, activists told Reuters.
Colvin, known for wearing a black eye patch after she lost an eye due to a shrapnel wound while working in Sri Lanka in 2001.
Colvin had said in 2009 that the LTTE had contacted her and pleaded with her to contact the UN and facilitate a surrender of the LTTE top leaders.
She said that she knew LTTE police Chief B. Nadesan, who had contacted her regarding the surrender, and LTTE peace secretariat head S. Puleedevan since being smuggled into rebel territory eight years before the war ended.

She was paid to spread the LTTE propoganda. What rubbish is this about her having the best evidence against this Goivernment? She got her eye ball knocked out whn Mangala Samaraweera was media Minister and pushing hard to defeat the “mini maru thrasthavaadi”. They got everything in a twist then and lost ground to the LTTE.
Colvin sneaked into Homs in Syria to do what she did for the LTTE. Only this time she and the “civilians” are working for the Israeli Government. If you did not know this.. you are naieve.
These journalists give only twisted stories which are favourable to the West and US.
Rowdy Peter
You are a despicable coward speaking ill of a brave woman whose shoes you are not fit to lick. All you and your tribe can do is to spout conspiracy theories about anyone who does not follow your bosses’ “line.”
Rowdy Peter, dont talk rubbish man! Before fabricating your fancy theories, try to get the facts correctly. Israel doesnt want the Asad regime to fall, because its afraid that the new government might be hardliners like all the new governments of arab spring. You seems to be the naive one for not knowing that!
I wonder whether she smuggled herself to Iraq or Afghanistan to report the civilian causalities caused by her birth and adapted countries. This picture alone shows her hypocrisy wearing a imperialistic poppy.
Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya were “Just Wars”, no ? The West fighting the barbarians.. So it’s all good .. No need to question those actions because nothing wrong ever happened there.. No civilians were/are killed even though drone attacks continue to kill dozens daily, and suicide bombers still haunt the bazaars of Iraq
The Oil Must Flow ! And The West is blameless
Well said.. wonder if she had any adventure stories in Iraq, Afghanistan or Libya about its civilian ‘grievences’. Another friend of Tamil Ealam Terrorists lost. RIP inspite of her association with terrorists!!
Its damn shame. I feel pity for the first writer, whose hatred mind is restless and wants to say whatever comes to the writer’s mind. Mind should not wander like the monkey jumping from branch to branch and from one tree to another shaking the branches damaging the fruits. He is pointing one finger at the wrong target and the remaining fingers at him. The Government still trying to fool the other nations, falling deep into deep problems for itself. At present forcing Shavendra Silva into a UN group advising Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on payment to troops participating in U.N. peacekeeping operations. This action misfired as Shavendra Silva was involved in the genocidal acts against the Tamils in the war in 2009. According to UN experts and rights groups, the group’s chair, former U.N. deputy secretary-general Louise Frechette, said in a statement Wednesday that after consulting other members she had advised Major General Shavendra Silva “that his participation is not appropriate or helpful.” The report by a panel of experts appointed by the secretary-general concluded that tens of thousands of people were killed in the last five months of Sri Lanka’s civil war, primarily by government troops. You can fool yourself forever, not others or the World.
Raja Perera or who ever you are, you can not be a Sri Lankan? If you are, then you are an absolute paraya!!
You must be one of those lackeys who worships the sordid western world, who had unleashed total & utter mayhem around the world by invading sovereign nations,DE-stabling civil societies, etc: Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, a few examples. This so called UN is nothing but a mouth piece of US & it’s alleys!!
This journalist was a trouble shooter for the western world, she or the likes of her, and these bogus HR organs who shout themselves horse, when something happens in the 3rd world, are always deaf & dumb when their masters in the west,US,UK, EU commit blatant HR violations!! The kind of death she had to face was tragic, coz we feel when unarmed civilians are caught in a cross fire, but she bought it on herself!! Her spreading of lies, had ended!! It might sound brutal, but that’s what you call truth & retribution!
Mercenaries deserve lucrative salaries because they are living dangerously….
ill-thought comments from certain individuals. You guys do not know that your nation is taken for a ‘joy ride’ at a cost that can never be recovered dont you.
As long as you have this mentality, the nation will be scrapped to its bottom.
I like colvin dead or alive????
We as a member of civilised society salute your bravey and may your soul rest in peace!! You did a wonderful service to victims and help to idetify criminals all over the world including Sri Lankan war criminals. Your family members could be proud of you. We all love you and will be missing you a lot.
