EU tells UNHRC to act

The European Union (EU) today told the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) to encourage Sri Lanka to fully implement the recommendations of the Lessons Learned and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC).

The Foreign Minister of Denmark Villy Sovndal, speaking on behalf of the EU at the 19th session of the UN Human Rights Council today, said that Sri Lanka must also be told to engage with the UN on the Experts Panel report.

“Accountability for past violations must remain high on the Council’s agenda.  Impunity for human rights violations is an unsolvable debt, which, if unaddressed, is transmitted through generations. No country, no society can afford this. This is true in the case of Sri Lanka where accountability must be an essential part of any process of national reconciliation. We believe that the Human Rights Council should engage the authorities to fully implement the recommendations of the Lessons Learned and Reconciliation Commission, and to engage with the UN on the Report of the UN Secretary General’s Panel of Experts,” he said.

Meanwhile South Africa commended the Sri Lankan government for its decision to setup an authoritative mechanism to further investigate allegations related to human rights abuses and he encouraged the government to take decisive action upon the findings.

South African Deputy Minister of International Relations Marius Fransman, told the Council during the session today that his government has also noted the release of the LLRC report and its positive recommendations.

Thank you ,EU the countries ,along with USA for justice and fairness to ALL people.
What sinking lanka needs is a full overhaul like in mid east.

  2. Apart the politicians from the ruling family the rest of the Srilankans want peace. Our government for their survival use race as triumpacard. It is very sad. This government of ours is unfit to be in power. Family rule is always dangerous.

It is not Leasons Learned and Reconciliation Commission LLRC ,it is properly speaking LLRC represent – Look for Loophole to Rebut the Crime. The commission’s task were to facilitate an escape route from the terrible War Crime committed during the last days of the war as shown by Channel 4 and also by the UN Culprit of the Rajapaksa clan should be brought before the World Court.

The UNHRC is dominated by the USA, NATO member countries and other western countries, and the others who take sides of these monsters is mainly doing it for their own benefits. The UNHRC is not an impartial institute, it is well known that this institute is trying to go after only small nations ignoring the human rights violations done by the big ones like US and the NATO in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Libya and by US in Panama and in Vietnam. So being the stooges of the big violator of Human Rights, it is not strange to note the stooges also jump on to the band wagon and tell the world, that only the KETTLE IS BLACK and not the POT.
