LTTE thermobaric weapon found

The police and army in a search operation in the north have recovered an LTTE thermobaric weapon, the military said.

According to the Army the weapon was among several other military hardware recovered on Tuesday in Maruthankerny, Irattaperiyakulam, Ramanoor, Nallur and Puthukuiyiruppu.

A thermobaric weapon, which includes the type known as a “fuel-air bomb”, is an explosive weapon that produces a blast wave of a significantly longer duration than those produced by condensed explosives. This is useful in military applications where its longer duration increases the numbers of casualties and causes more damage to structures.

In 2009 the then Foreign Secretary Dr. Palitha Kohona had said that the government had found evidence that the LTTE was seeking to buy thermobaric weapons from the international market.

The government also claimed at the time to have found an arms cache that included two thermobaric launchers.

I wonder what the Tamil diaspora who shout themselves hoarse about alleged “War Crimes” of GOSL got to say about this? They are the very same hypocrites who provided dollars to their PET(LTTE) to buy these toys to play with, which would have caused unimaginable horrific destruction of life and property!! It would be interesting to find out which country or organization supplied these mast destruction weapons!! I wont be surprised, if it’s one of those countries who now trying to teach us about accountability!!!

Diaspora will say this is an SLA weapon planted in previously LTTE held areas to tarnish the LTTE’s good name. They might even go further and say that this is proof of government using such weapons against innocent Tamil civilians or war crimes!!!

      Eddy:
Wouldn’t it be relevant to ask also 1) how it took so long to find this weapon, 2) Why a desperate LTTE didn’t use it before 2009 when they were on the run, 3) What the timing is going to be in the matter of “discovering” these weapons in the future is going to be?

Surely, between Douglas Devananda, Pillayan, Karuna and The Big Arms Procurer, now all in the bosom of the government, this information should have been available much earlier.

  2. I wonder why after 2 years and 10 months that all of a sudden the armed forces and police are unearthing suicide vests and weapons? Whom are they trying to fool?

SL the racist Govt will find so many other weapons they used against the legitimate freedom fighters and innocent tamil civilians. Do not add more and more lies. Is this what India supplied to the SL? If true, you should look at the label and bring India for war crime charges.
