Sri Lanka committed to reconciliation
A high level delegation from UNICEF’s governing body says Sri Lanka has moved from a state affected by conflict to a state deeply committed to reconstruction, reconciliation and development.
Members of the Bureau of UNICEF’s Executive Board were on a week-long mission to Sri Lanka recently with the aim of assessing UNICEF’s work in the field with government agencies and development partners.

Today in Geneva the country is facing a biggest challenge from West. I really don’t know if the resolution is going to be passed or not. We hear so many different views. But if the resolution is passed then we are going to have a big problem. Even at this eleventh hour we can do something to defeat the resolution. But our arrogancy is not going to help us. There is no doubt currently in our country there is no law and order. Police is working only on the orders of our President. Police cannot arrest or charge big shots. Look at the case of Duminda Silva. Where is the justice. Think about Mervyn. He terrorise his area. No action can be taken against him. What is wrong with our leaders. The Tamils are treated so badly except Karuna, Duglas and few other idiots. Today the diaspora are doing their best to bring Mahinda and his henchmen to justice. What can we do? We should have had a discussion with diaspora’s leaders. I know most of them would have listened to Mahinda. Not all the Tamils are LTTE. But Gothabaya thinks all the Tamils are LTTE. This is the difference between an educated person and an idiot. America nor West are against our country. They are against our regime. But the regime is painting a picture to say the West is against Srilanka. People like Wimal and Champika pour petrol to burning issue. These two ministers should be controlled. Time will tell.
Tamils have lost virtually all confidence in the state of Sri Lanka, regardless of the party in power, the whole aim of which has been to militarise and colonise the North & East with Sinhalese. The war against so LTTE Terrorism on the back of 9/11 was a god send, in achieving this end. To win over the Tamils the Sinhalese voters and the Sinhalese politicians must realise that Tamils of N-E must be given the right to govern themselves in a federal structure just as it is in India. To claim that it is a small island where federalism cannot work is simply moronic and Tamils will never buy this argument. One only needs to look at the successive constitutions framed with the sole intention of Sinhalese dominance over Tamils and the actions of the all Governments since independence confirm this point. The world has now realised this, but it will be the responsibility of the Tamils to work towards achieving their political rights just as the Sinhalese have.
The problem of the Tamil community spokesmen is that they want only Tamils to live in the North and East and not Sinhalese, but they want to live all over Sri lanka. They need to get their act together.
