When the case into Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra’s murder was taken up for hearing yesterday the court had ordered the CID official to also be present.
The CID official was present in the vicinity of the court building but had failed to turn up in the court room when the case was heard.
Meryll Ranjith Lamahewa was identified by the police media unit as the CID officer who was instructed to appear for the case yesterday.

Police cannot effectively investigate its own officers. In many countries, there are independent bodies of persons, to do such investigations. Such bodies are a longfelt need in sri lanka. In this case, his explantion should be asked for, in writing within a reasonable time frame, meanwhile interdicting him pending conclusion of the matter.
A very good move. As Sri Lankans it is sad that you cannot have faith in the justice system, and that many murders and crime go unpunished and the victims see no justice. What has become of this country? When there is a breakdown of law, and the leaders of this country do nothing about it, it means either those leaders are involved, or they are totally inept and unable to control and prevent the crimes. Crime is rampant now in Sri Lanka, and obviously the criminals are encouraged by the inefficiency of the police and justice system. The blame should fall squarely on the present leadership in the country, who seem complicit in these crimes by being silent.
Cat jump out of the sack.
