Imagination Running Riot!

It was Albert Einstein who said, “Logic will take you from A to B. Imagination will take you anywhere.” This is true, but if only imagination can also get things done on the way from A to B! There are certain places you have to go to, like for instance, I have to visit my dentist, and I’m finding all manner of lame excuses each day to put it off. I’m filled with dread at just the thought of going. In my case though, since my movements are somewhat restricted because of my creaky, cranky joints, I definitely have to imagine the places I cannot visit. This is so easy with a click on a button of your television or computer you can view places close up without ever setting a foot there. The girls say I have an over-active imagination. I always see a conspiracy in any situation. When in doubt, check it out!
Books, an excellent play or a good movie can certainly transport you to another place. You know that certain scenarios are logically impossible in real life, but one can imagine that these situations actually exist. Sometimes one can scoff at the bizarre and unlikely scenarios thrown at the public. But you never know, since life is becoming increasingly weird, maybe these actually happen. Most often a dream world is so much pleasanter than real life. I’m all for dreaming, I spend quite a bit of time on it. The only negative thing is, time slips by unnoticed and you have not done half of what you meant to do. I have a kindred spirit in the Beautiful Dreamer at home, though often like the words of the song, I’m thinking “awake unto me!” Those of you who know her must know she’s like a vampire, up all night and sleeping in during the day. Ooops! I’m a bit like that myself. But we draw the line at drinking blood.
Anyway, supporting the theory that music is what our inner feelings sound like, I remembered the songs “Dreamer” and “The Logical Song” by the group Supertramp. The other song was “Imagine” by John Lennon. So you see, human beings always dream of a better world. Music can express a wide range of emotions, like happiness, anger, fear or sorrow. A skilfull use of words and melody can capture people’s attention and sometimes convey a message in a pleasanter and clearer manner than mere words alone. Music can also transport you to another world. Close your eyes and drift away!
Another medium of expression is art, where a person can express him/herself and be free of the heaviness of the world. You can really go off on a tangent because it is each individual’s perception of a view or opinion of how something would appear visually to us. I must confess I cannot understand or like some of the more modern paintings, even though they are vibrantly coloured and attractive to the eye. Your guess is as good as mine while my mind is wrestling with trying to decipher what the artist was trying to convey. Even a mere blob or splash means something! Anyway, they brighten up a blank wall. I know, I’m quite a Phillistine. Some people are of the view that life is the art of drawing without an eraser. I suppose this is true, because you cannot undo something once it is done. You could correct a situation, but the original episode still remains. It would be most useful to delete or erase some things and pretend they never happened. I cannot understand modern sculpture too, some of them look very sleek and elegant, but others just look like the sculptor started on something and it went horribly wrong. Maybe the chap was in a bad mood and he expressed his inner feelings an took a good bash at it! I think a vivid imagination is an useful asset to have in life. Think how dull and boring our existence would be without it! As for me, I use my imagination quite a bit when I’m cooking, as I hate to stick to a recipe unless it is quite necessary. I fling things in with gay abandon and hope for the best. In my last “fling,” I didn’t have wine to add to this chicken/mushroom dish as it had all been guzzled up by the girls, so I had a coconut liqueur that was open and I added that with some mint leaves and it was absolutely delicious!
