Sri Lanka Awaiting Release Of Census Report

By Dinouk Colombage
Sri Lanka’s first islandwide census in 30 years has been completed and is awaiting approval to be released according to H. R. Gunasekara, additional director general to the Department of Census and Statistics.
Gunasekara told The Sunday Leader that the department had finished compiling its report regarding the census. He however said that no date had been set regarding its release as they are still waiting approval from the government.
He refused to reveal any details of the census, but insisted that this was completed in a thorough fashion.
This census was the first island wide one to be conducted since 1981. Nearly 100,000 supervisors and 80,000 enumerators took part in the operation, while over Rs. 1.7 billion was allocated.
